Naples would be the one Italian city to avoid.....don't wear your jewels and shit.....all is mob-invested there, the Camorra being one of Italy's most brutal mob-clans.....they also don't fear undertaking tourists.....

I don't like Naples at all!

Sorry!

When my bf and I arrived there in our car we asked soem locals how to get to our hotel and the first thing they did was that they warned us that it's dangerous to drive in the car without having it locked all the time and that we need to take better care of ourselves. Apart from that everything was fine when we were there and MT Vesuv was pretty cool although we couldn't see that much because the weather was not that good.
With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

You could be right, I have an inside edge so have never really had to go it alone. My understanding is that if you know how things work you are protected as a tourist. The last camorrista that tried to rip off a tourist ended up with no knee caps. Tourists bring money into the poor areas and the Camorra protect those poor areas - the last thing they want is for the tourists to bugger off scared. All this was sorted in the 90's when they realised that this was somewhat counterproductive. I have never felt threatened, even when I was on my own and it is usually my wife who says "don't go there" stick to the major tourist spots and you will be fine. Taxis will take all your money though, so negotiate the fare before you travel - even the meters have add ons etc.

Yes, guys will approach you for cash to look after your car or find you a parking place - so pay them and your car will bew fine. Sure, there is no meter to feed but it's just the wasy things work. The same guy can probably tell you where to get great food too! Embrace the society and it will embrace you.
Happy is he who finds out the causes for things.Virgil (70-19 BC). Virgil was such a lying bastard!

This is true (or at least my wife thinks so - I have never seen it happen) Always keep the window up and don't wear your jewelry on your window arm. Sure there are oppourtunists, but you get that in any major city.

I will make sure that I pass this info on to my friends that we are meeting up with there. Though her sister has been there several times already and never has had a problem.
Thanks Steve!
