English Football (Soccer) fans, remember this guy?

For all you English Football (Soocer) fans, do any of you remember this guy:

(the guy in the air that just headed the ball)
Kevin Broomfield????

He played professionally in England and the US (For the SJ Earthquakes).

His daughter just made the U10 Competitive Girls Soccer team I coach.

Yesterday my elementary kids introduced themselves and told me what their favourite pastime was. The boys love football so I might try and organise a game for them.

Damn you guys are cold blooded!!!!!

I know he played professionally in Europe and the US but I got the impression he was not a star. I guess that assessment was right. I was just asking how well know he was/is in Europe (I guess I have my answer)? What team/teams did he play for in Euorpe?

I do know he definately played for the San Jose Earthquakes in the MLS here in the States.

And you guys are still cold blooded sad . But he is British so you are trashing one of your own wink .

lol

http://www.mmapsports.com/bio.html

Kevin Broomfield was born in England, and from very early on, excelled in the game of soccer. During his time as a professional player in England and in the USA, he was regarded as a great goal scorer. Kevin has also played exhibition soccer in Holland, Canada and Peru. As a player and now as a coach, Kevin’s achievements have been numerous. He was the leading goal scorer in the SF Masters league in 2002 and was voted MVP in 2001 in an exhibition in Peru where he scored 4 goals in a 4-1 victory over the Sports Boys Master team. Many of Kevin’s achievements have been documented in newspapers and television media. Kevin has been coaching for over 15 years and is in high demand as a coach. He is also a valued part of the Make Me A Pro Sports Team.

Ya know what....based on the responses to this thread, I am beginning to come to the conclusion that many British Soccer (YEAH I CALLED IT SOCCER) fans are truly arrogant snobs.

I am so glad we didn't go to the Castro Valley Soccer League where the fees are 4 times higher just so they can pay "trainers" that all have British accents and only care about money. And we still kick their butts every year.

That's what I am trying to find out. In the US (MLS) I know he played for the San Jose Earthquakes. But I just know he played professionally in England, but not in what league or for which team.

Plus I think he is about 47 now so it has been a while since he played professionally at a very high level.

I guess I could ask him the next time I see him.

Yes. Both at an Elementary School and in the HYSL.

For 13 years...WOW. That is dedication.

I really enjoy coaching, in fact I am surprised how rewarding and fun it is.

I know he made it to the highest level here in the States, the MLS.

And he still plays "professionally". That is teams in adult leagues and such pay him to play like in the SF Masters league in 2002 . Kind of a ringer type thing. Maybe that is the "professional" soccer he played in England. I will ask him the next time I see him.

It does take up a lot of time. We had tryouts for the Competitive teams Saturday, Sunday and last night, 3 hours each session, just for tryouts.

For the Elementary School team (we start practice Monday) practice will be three times a week plus games on Saturday. The season goes from April through May.

For my other Competitive team (starting in May), practice will be 2 to 3 times a week plus games on Saturday and Sunday. Tournaments and Jamborees start in June and the season starts in August. Then when Competitive is over in November, the in-door league starts and goes through February.

Then it starts all over again. It really is a year-round thing for me at this point.

Yah, I did Class III for 10 of the 13 years. But now, I get to play. I play indoor once a week and have joined a new outdoor team that practices once a week and plays once a week.

Good Luck this year!

I coached House my first two years (two teams each year,Girls U8 & U10). Last season both my teams won the Championship and I had an overall record between both teams of 22-4-2. Not bad for someone who never played Soccer growing up, was only coaching in his second season and had two teams (practices 4 days a week plus two games on Saturday).

This year I moved up to division III and Elementary school.

I hope to build my division III team up enough to move up to Division I in the future. That is going to be tough though. Just the size difference alone between division I and division III is a lot. Not to mention the talent level.

I'm glad you get to play now and thanks for the encouragement.
