So I Went To The Dentist Today To Get A Tooth Pulled

I had a tooth that had partially cracked off. It wasn't bothering me, so I kind of left it alone. Well, this morning, I rolled over in bed, and the tooth broke off even more. I think my tongue was pushing against my tooth while I was sleeping, and that was what caused it to break. The tooth was even broken down to the gum on some parts, and I only had a very small piece of tooth left.

I knew then that I could no longer put it off, and a called a dentist to make an emergency appointment. I was hoping that the dentist would not send me to an oral surgeon, since the tooth was in really bad shape. Luckily, he was able to pull it without any problems. He gave me like 4 shots of Novacaine, because when he started to work on extracting the tooth, I told him I could feel some pain.

I'm so happy that the tooth is gone, it's a big relief to have it taken care of and to not worry about getting a bad toothache. It's oozing somewhat, but the dentist's office gave me some gauge to bite down on to stop the bleeding. Once it heals up sufficiently, I am going to have a dental implant to replace the tooth that I lost.

Lesson of the day: if you have a tooth that breaks off, get it looked at immediately, even if it is not causing you any pain. It will not get better, it will only get worse. wink
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

OUCH-Y WAH WAH!!!!

I'm glad you got it taken care of Nan-y!!!

You don't smoke right?? If I'm wrong, and you do, do NOT drag on a cig until that has healed or you will get a WICKED case of dry socket.

Hope you heal up quickly and completely!!

hug Thanks. No, I'm not a smoker thank goodness. It's funny that you mention not to smoke. On the instruction sheet that I got from the dentist's office, it said not to smoke for the first 24 hours. That has got to be rough for people who do smoke. Dry socket does not sound like a fun thing to have.

It was the third tooth from the front on the left hand side. Probably a bicuspid or a molar? Not sure.

hug Thanks. I hate the dentist too, and put it off until the very last minute. Then, when it's over, I find myself thinking, "That wasn't so bad after all." lol

Ouch that does sound painful. They didn't give me any antiobiotics, surprisingly.

New to the site but I am glad u took care of that. I had to go to an oral surgeon and get a root canal redone.I was freaking out but it really went well. What hurt was my pocket(well actually my husbands) had to shell out 1300 bucks now that's love g*d dammit and the endontist gave me a 300 dollar discount. Then I had to wait 2months to get my crown(waiting for my insurance to kick in) But in the end it was worth it! lol

The real lesson of the day is:

Brush your teeth!

Just kidding.

I had something like this happen with an impacted wisdom tooth. It cracked as well. I was so glad to get it out because it was extremely difficult to keep it in good, clean, healthy shape.

boxed I never had root canal done, but the thought of having one done makes me shudder. They are very expensive indeed. nod It's nice that your endontist gave you a discount like that.

No, you're right about brushing your teeth. nod smile I wonder why we even have wisdom teeth, since they seem to cause so many people problems. I read once that many years ago, our mouths were a little larger in size, so wisdom teeth being impacted was not a problem.

I'm starting to not like dentists. I have had some work done recently and I wonder if I should have just left my teeth alone. I recently had some fillings and I now feel more sensitivity in my teeth.

The dentist thinks that I should have my wisdom teeth pulled. I have three. My wisdom teeth are not hurting so I dont think I will get them pulled.

Thanka. I feel good, actually. I had a little bit of pain/sensitivity the first day when the tooth was pulled, but I feel okay now.

hug I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your teeth. It's hard to find a good dentist, it seems.
