I don't want this to sound offensive, but where I come from Kim wouldn't be called white. Not black, but not white either. Also she, like Reggie, doesn't fit in to that Western white elite. I know their relationship is still seen as controversial (obviously), but it would have been even more so if Kim had been a pail red haired woman, for example. THAT is extremely unusual and apart from Lenny and Nicole and Bowie and Inma I haven't heard of any Hollywood-couple like that. [Edited 3/10/08 11:41am]

I wouldn't call that throwing you down a well. I also have to wonder if there would be the same amount of resistance to a thread about a reverse example of the same situation. I suspect not. When black women openly date white men in Hollywood, there is almost no noise made unless she says "there are no good black men around" which is a flat out lie, so brothas get heated about that. Otherwise, there's very little noise made other than a "you go, girl" from the other women. When its a man, he's "weak", a "sellout" and everything else but a child of God. Brothas still like Serena Williams and all of the other actresses and singers dating white men. Why is this such a sore spot when the actual topic was breaking the old Hollywood racist taboos?

clap it up for Jen Hudson's breasts racktastic Awww shit! Hell yes. Please dig me for a second; I wrote a thread about Ms Hudson over in Non Music shortly after she won her Oscar. I was saying how fine I thought she was and how I dug her body. Folks acted like I said the sky was green. They didn't see it. I think Jennifer has a pretty face and her body is simply bangin'. I would love to get lost in her breasts. Beautiful. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

I'm actually going to address your statement bk because you're suggesting a double standard that's NOT bring presented. I know I don't care if Kim dates black men, white men or blue. Giving props to someone who, in my opinion, doesn't have anything to lose by dating interracially is my issue since its sort of suggested that she's taking some big step. If anything, she's getting MORE attention because of who she dates. This isn't about black women being angry about Kim dating black men but just giving unwarranted attention and a hat tippy just because she dates a black man. So I think its a little unfair to suggest that some are being "sore". Cuz I could careless about Halle's dude too.

I didn't really know who she was until you all explained it to me. For the most part I thought we were talking about why a person should tip their hat to a person in Hollywood for dating a black man... In all sincerity, it's a discussion that takes place often within my community as a black person...and has been since the days of Tyne Daley and Peggy Lipton.
