Tell Me About Your Zune

Saw an 80 gig on sale for $249 and think I will finally jump into last century! lol

I am not a brand whore and could give a shit less about bells and whistles. I just need something functional and practical. Is this a good choice for MP3 player?

The Zune is ok.

If you're not going to go with an Ipod, look at Creative's players though. I like them better than Zune.

It's like Rushing07. It has all sorts of bells and whistles on it, but never forgets what it's designed to do. And it does it well.

Now that I'm over the desecration of our marriage, tell me what you don't like about the Zune and why the creative is better lol

I seem not to be finding creative products where I'm looking..... Only zune and ipod.

isn't zune even more limited about what you can do with song files than iPod is? that's what i heard. but i agree with imago (there's a weird phrase to type) - if you're gonna be all anti-iPod, go with creative zen mp3 players. i just divorced my zen nomad, but it was an amicable divorce. we're still friends. it doesn't mind that i traded up.

OK, I want to avoid crazy crap with converting files. I want drag and drop. I haven't seen creative products the 3 places I went. I will search and find one.

Thanks for nothing Dan! disbelief And thank you Anx mushy

I know you and your new iPod are still on your honeymoon (mushy), but if you had neither of your players and had to buy one today, which would you choose?

I'm having SUCH a hard time making up my mind between the Zen and the iPod. I hate the iTunes restriction for some reason, yet the iPods are so much more beautiful. Then there's the 1-2 year shelf life that Consumer Reports warns about. It's giving me a headache. I'm so afraid to drop the cash for the 160 GB (or whatever the biggest one is) and have it keel over in twelve goddamned months! bawl

Another question on the new iPods: their new album cover view option--is it true you can't swap through them fast and that they take forever to go through? I read somewhere that it's extremely slow to switch through albums when you use that view.

I have a ZEN, and can't figure out how to play with play lists mad

I can't do anything with it since I have a Mac.

One last (very stupid) question about iPods, now that I've seen Charlotte's mention: do iPods have a playlist function?

i haven't had that problem so far, and i've loaded a kajillion albums on to my iPod already. it takes a few seconds for all the art to load when you first turn on your iPod, but after that initial first few seconds, it's fine.

yes! including one playlist you can put together via the iPod itself. like, if you're on the way home from work and you hear a song that you wanna "bookmark" for whatever reason, you can click three times and it goes into an "on the go" playlist. you can create other playlists via iTunes too.

OK, why did you go IPOD since you liked the Zen?

for incredibly shallow reasons.

i was pissed that iPod was getting all the cool charging docks and portable speaker accessories, and i wanted in on all that. lol

also, the most important thing to me is having LOTS of space for my music, cuz as you know i have a ton of it - so when i saw the classic iPod w/ 160gb at a reasonable price, that swayed me a LOT.

i was all gung ho about creative because i liked how versatile the music files are - i use my zen nomad when i make compilation CDs most of the time because i can copy them into my nero software effortlessly, then mix my heart out - and i'll probably keep using my zen for that purpose.

meanwhile, i had bought my mom a little pink iPod nano for christmas last year, and spent some time loading songs into it for her, so i had a chance to acquaint myself with iPods for the first time, and kinda liked playing with one. recently, i had the resources to take a chance on an iPod of my own, so i figured what the heck. if it poops out on me and i hate it, i'll go back to my old-ass zen nomad. it looks like hell and it's so old skool it resembles a little professor calculator, but it still works just fine!

I'm stuck getting the 160 too. Friggin' $349, though. dead Plus, you've GOT to get the $50 warranty! It probably ends up closer to $450 altogether.

Fucking money, man. I want to do this without regret. lol God, I've got problems.

well, i remember on the zen site seeing options going up to at least 80gb, but they were always sold out.

jeeeezus redface

okay FINE:

if i had to choose today, i would probably LOOK at the creatives first. if creative had an easy-to-find 80+gb model with at least SOME competitive features to iPod (album cover view, user friendly menus, blah blah), and the price were substantially less than iPod (which it tends to be), then i would have stayed with creative. but. the iPod classics surprised me with the reasonable price and crazy capacity, so that sent me sniffing on apple's side of the fence and i was ultimately lured to the dark side. lol

i'm kinda glad i have both. you can find the old skool zen nomad jukeboxes (like i have) on eBay for under a hundred bucks, and that's for a 60 or 80 gb model. they're not pretty, but they're super dependable.

Thanks for the perspective, hon.

I guess I'll never be fully at peace with either decision, and should just get over it and go for it. Christ.
