the films of kenneth anger - there are actually two volumes to this set, but it's some of the most beautiful/disturbing/skank-nasty (in a gutter kinda way, not so much in a porny kinda way) filmmaking i've ever seen. they're all short films, and the movies feature people like marianne faithfull, anais nin, anton le vey, mick jagger, and a guy named bobby beausoleil who would go on to be one of the key members of the manson family. many people call kenneth anger the architect of what we currently call music videos, but that's just scratching the surface of what his films are like. if you want bizarre, this is the stuff right here. [Edited 3/6/08 16:10pm] I have this. And I agree. You're refering to Lucifer Rising. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

I've seen many off the wall films from different decades, different genres and what's considered "crazy" of course is subjective. But I think the one that does it for me out of all that I have seen is definately "Freaks" by Todd Browning from 1932. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Both this movie and Nowhere annoyed the hell out of me. It's remarkable that I agreed to go see Mysterious Skin afterward with Araki's horrible track record. | |

(Anger in the middle/bottom there) Why is Mick Jagger in there? It has to do with the film Lucifer Rising that they are talking about up above there. The people in this picture all had something to do with the film: Jimmy Page did the music (initially) Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithful were in it, Charles Manson and Bobby Beausoleil are in there because Bobby was a member of the Manson family and finished recording the soundtrack from prison. They all have tie-ins because they were all reportedly involved at one point or another with the teachings of Aleister Crowley (on top there) and involved in the movie somehow. sextonseven said: I'm not sure if "crazy-ass" in this thread means the movie has a lot of senseless violence because all the movies listed so far are somewhat violent--even Weapons Of Ass Destruction.
I know some films that I think are crazy-ass, but more on a WTF? level. Like this one: Yes, those are beer filled prosthetic legs worn by Isabella Rossellini in the movie. i went to the Prem showing of this and the After party / Saddest Music in the world competition ...in london.
