Anxiety

here's my contribution to the crazy-ass film club:

the films of kenneth anger - there are actually two volumes to this set, but it's some of the most beautiful/disturbing/skank-nasty (in a gutter kinda way, not so much in a porny kinda way) filmmaking i've ever seen. they're all short films, and the movies feature people like marianne faithfull, anais nin, anton le vey, mick jagger, and a guy named bobby beausoleil who would go on to be one of the key members of the manson family. many people call kenneth anger the architect of what we currently call music videos, but that's just scratching the surface of what his films are like. if you want bizarre, this is the stuff right here. nod

Absolutely atrocious - that movie irritated me like no other film ever has. I can't believe the same director made Mysterious Skin...

After seeing that disaster, I watched another waste of time, Nowhere. Gregg Araki fooled me twice.

Mysterious Skin was good because Gregg didn't write it.

It could have been at least 15 minutes shorter and without the gratutituous use of the N word.

they could have cut out a LOT of words from that babblefest of a movie and made it better. lol

hmmm That's a thought.

Koyaanisqatsi

two hours of stock footage narrated by some goofy ominous voice yelling out "koyaanisqatsiiii". It's "relevant" in a "Heavy Metal Machine" way I guess...

actually, it's not stock footage and the soundtrack to that film is some really beautiful music by phillip glass - you do have the ominous chanting voice at the beginning, but past that, it's a really nice instrumental score.

i hated it when i first saw it, too. i thought it was dumb. then i couldn't quit thinking about it. it's one of my all time faves now.

It even got a bad rating on Amazon, LOL. Definite video nasty. Not "worth" watching, but if you're willing to put up with it, the end is pretty funny. smile

This movie is seriously NOT NOT for the squemish ..it is a ture story also. The guy that put the ad in the paper to eat a man and some1 replied...this is that film.

Bloodsucking Freaks

LAWD this movie is so damn B its rediculous. Hored of women in a basement eating a man..a curly haired midget, and a talent show with real murders (but people think its a trick). Oh and a scientist does tooth and brain surgery..and sucks the blood out of the brain with a straw.

I finally GOT that movie after years of not seeing it since I was 13
Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

wow completely the opposite of me, it has brought me to tears by the end it seems so profound in how it shows things gone astray and the music hits so hard. To each his own. this is one of my all time faves.

I'm not sure if "crazy-ass" in this thread means the movie has a lot of senseless violence because all the movies listed so far are somewhat violent--even Weapons Of Ass Destruction.

I know some films that I think are crazy-ass, but more on a WTF? level. Like this one:

Yes, those are beer filled prosthetic legs worn by Isabella Rossellini in the movie.

Is this that weird ass Canadian movie that takes place in Winnipeg?

Yes it is. That's where the competition takes place for different countries to submit and play their saddest song. The contest is sponsored by beer baron Rossellini who hopes everyone watching will get so depressed that they will want to drown their sorrows in her beer driving sales through the roof.

Loved both Grindhouse movies, but after watching them both a few times, I'd give the edge to Death Proof.

I mean, Rose McGowan with a machine gun leg is like... well, I think I was waiting my whole life for that and didn't even know it.

But after the second or third time, the zombie spoof joke kind of loses its appeal. Death Proof has me on the edge of my seat and whooping it up every time.

Other crazy ass movies:

Gummo. I love it. I wore it out.

Freeway. I'm sure GangstaFam will come along and rave about this one. It's awesome.

Wild Tigers I Have Known. wtf?

Cube. The first one was cool. The premise especially. And they did well with it for what they had. The followups were not so great, though.

Memento. A fucked-up classic.

Meet The Feebles. Loved it the first time, over a decade ago. Saw it again last year. My bf found it and gave it to me for Christmas. I wasn't as enthralled, but it's still crazy.

Dolla Morte. He got me this one too. The premise is great, and the packaging made it look hilarious, but..... um.. No.

Happiness. When the kid started crying because his father was molesting teenage boys, but not him because he was fat, I about pissed myself. I mean, it's not a funny movie, but.... come on.

The last 2 David Lynch films. Mulholland Drive and Inland Empire. Those shits are crazy. LOVE them.

The House of Yes. "Pancakes, Marty. Pancakes."

Saw Blood Feast at the movies as a kid.
