WalMart is the devil pt. 2

March 5, 2008 -- A pregnant worker at a Long Island Wal-Mart is claiming she almost had a miscarriage when she was forced to push heavy shopping carts around to make her bosses look good during a visit from an inspection team.

Sarah Arena, 21, said no one at the store called an ambulance when she began to bleed. She said her mom had to drive her to an emergency room, where doctors ordered her to rest in bed to protect her unborn child.

Now, the single mom said she is not getting paid, has no health insurance and Wal-Mart has refused to pay her medical bills. The company denies her claims.

"I'm just nervous and I hope everything goes OK with my kid," said Arena. "I don't know how I'm going to support myself and my baby."

Arena's high-powered lawyer, Rosemarie Arnold, called Wal-Mart's actions "atrocious."

"She's still cramping and might lose the baby," she said.

Arnold said she will file a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and will also file a multimillion-dollar lawsuit demanding compensatory and punitive damages

How sad..

But, I can attest to Wal-Mart not being so bad to workers.

Iwork there part time to help my Mom out, when I tore the ligaments, and miniscus in my knee they paid for the surgery, for my time off both jobs, and for the physical therapy.

I feel for her but I had to shop at the devil as you so call it cause Target did not supply the right hair spray for nappy heads!! So i hadto get in my car and go across street to those devils at Walmart and support them!!

I should sue Target for wasting my time and only supplying straight hair spray instead of for the nappy heads!!!

Ah no, it was hard work to keep it that color!

Which is why I have let it go back to pepper, with a smattering of salt. wink

oh no, you can't buy that shade from silly wal-mart!

that was the product of a french salon, with a special red red shampoo to keep the color in place.

too high maintenance for this lazy heiress!

I have an even better story, which was in the WSJ last year:
An employee was in an automobile accident, permanently disabled, and needs full time care. WalMart covered her hospital bill. After she received a $700,000 settlement from the insurance of the party responsible for the accident, WalMart sued the family for reimbursement for the health care. That took the majority of the settlement.
There's a statement with the policy, that says, if medical care for an injury, results in a $$ settlement, WalMart is to be reimbursed for the medical care.

Rule of thumb: Anytime you're in an accident, and use your health insurance policy for injuries, and are reimbursed for damages; be sure to include medical expenses with the settlement, should it come up, later down the road. Check your policy.

What WalMart did was perfectly legal, based on what was in writing with the policy.
eek
