Art after 1945

headlp

I'm supposed to find an 'uncommon' postmodernist to briefly discuss in a class I've got, and as I haven't read much on my own about this kind of art because it isn't my favorite I'm having trouble. I know there's art lovers on the org! anyone have a favorite artist (that isn't very mainstream) they could clue me in on? biggrin

NEVERMIND! i remembered an artist i like falloff

and how long after 1945?
how about 15 years later give or take - i'd look at the underworkings of the FLUX movement...look past yoko ono and the likes and research the marginal artists that were actually doing something worth paying attention to?

i'm bad with names but i'll see what i can do..

It depends on whether 'uncommon' means 'not known' or 'unconventional'.

If it were me, I'd study a handful of those I like the most, in order to be able to compare and contrast (if needed) when I get called upon by the professor.

It's easier for me to analyze postmodern art when I have other pieces to compare. Plus, it looks like you've done more homework, which you have, yet it doesn't take long.

that's still yet to be determined... every text i read they mention that there's no definition of post modernism, where visual art is concerned...
so good luck! lol

In that case look at the work of Banksy. I love his stuff and it is very political.

I am looking at a few of his pieces...i want one for here but it may not be to Val's taste

wikipedia says:

Postmodern art is a term used to describe art which is thought to be in contradiction to some aspect of modernism, or to have emerged or developed in its aftermath. In general movements such as Intermedia, Installation art, Conceptual Art and Multimedia, particularly involving video are described as postmodern. The traits associated with the use of the term postmodern in art include bricolage, use of words prominently as the central artistic element, collage, simplification, appropriation, depiction of consumer or popular culture and Performance art.

really, what he's asking for is contemporary art (anything post WWII), it's not really just postmodernism actually.

you should check out Kara Walker...she's VERY contemporary, like today
but it is after 1945

she's incredible, check out some of her writings too, highly political

also contemp:

micheal ray charles
and... janine antoni

they're all very recent, like within the past 10 years...
