my job involves moments of chaos, punctuated by loooong periods of having nothing to do. Seemingly for the sake of it, internet access has been blocked by a new manager, (despite our work being hindered as a result) so sometimes the boredom grinds you down into the ground. You start to feel like one of those chimps, rocking back and forth, mentally sick with boredom, and some days I am inches away from exploding at the guy

I feel you on that!! At my last job, there was a bitch working in my department whose ass my two bosses would kiss. They paid her for like 1/2 hour to an 1 hour overtime every day (which she never should have received, since she did not have that much work to do). I hate it when bosses kiss a certain employer's ass like that. One rule for one person should be good for all the people working in the department. That is one of the reasons why I HATE working in corporate America. Some so-called bosses make some really bad decisions and have poor management/people skills, from what I've observed.
