"Dream" this dream that ...

Dream car
Dream vacation
Dream house

Are your "dream" things those things that are truely attainable or just far fetched non realities ?

Do you just day dream of your dreams or do you actively create them ?

This is really strange for me to answer.

I believe that action creates the conditions for what you want for sure.
I work hard to get the things I need.

But sometimes, from out of left field, like totally out of nowhere, something dreamy just pops up. mushy

I tend to be more in the here and now. I don't think of things like cars and homes until they become necessary if that makes sense.

It does

so when you need that car do you buy your dream car

or would your dream car be a non reality and you would settle for something less then the "dream"

eek does that make sense ? lol

Same. I don't have a dream car or dream house at all. It's just not something I think about. Ever.

I may have a dream vacation or two... and those are things I plan to acheive.

That is how I am - my "dream" things are things I plan and do acheive

I have a friend that has huge dreams and she does nothing to move towards them and always seems frustrated

Nah, I don't like to have thousand dollar car payments. I used to care about that stuff, but I would rather be able to buy cool stuff like fish tanks and motorcycles. I did buy my dream bike though a couple of years ago.

I even decided not to buy the new convertible this year. It just seems excessive to me now.

And using the term "dream" usually puts those things out of the reach of everyone but the super rich. They wouldn't be dreams if you could have them!

I guess I don't spend time thinking about things I don't think I'd ever have. Or maybe my dreams are already quite modest so they're easily achievable? Maybe somewhere between the two of those...

I think mine are truely attainable.

I've been on a lot of vacations all over the world, so I guess I'm lucky for that and I don't really have one "dream" destination. I love to travel anywhere. nod

Dream house, well yes. lol I'm in the process of looking at houses right now anyway, so that's all I eat-sleep-dream right now. redface Sometimes I'll look at huge beautiful old historic mansions and call those my dream houses, because they really are, but in reality I can't see ever actually living in one of them. Too big. And cold. Not to mention the price tag on those. lol So I'm looking a bit smaller at the moment. wink

Oh, but no dream cars. I could give a crap about cars. fart I don't drive either. shrug One day I might again, but as for now, I take public transport, my bike, or taxis everywhere.

But dream jobs... I have so many of those. nod

I think that is qiute near how I think and feel about myself as well

My friend seems to set herself up for feeling let down because her dreams are not and she gets pissy with me lol

I don't think so. They are goals. To me the word dream indicates something in the subconscious out of reality.

The fish tank I am working on right now is exactly what I wanted and envisioned, but it is not my dream tank. My dream tank would be a wing on my house like at the Shedd Aquarium. Not realistic.

Fuck all this I only think about attainable things.

I dream about having a nice car and owning a house but I know that at this point and time it's just not an option. At this time of my life I am just living day to day and don't really even have the option of making goals like this...yet.

So, yeah, I like to dream about having stuff like this one day.

yup.

The bigger you dream, the harder you'll work for it.

I mean, what if I said that if kept working real hard at my job as a stock boy in Alabama, I might be able to obtain and apartment of my own and possible become a floor manager?

Well, my ass would have still been stuck in Ala-fucking-bama.

But no---I dreamed of travel abroad. Of living in Florida, etc. etc.

And so I joined the military, lived in Germany, and currently own a house in Florida.

Folks need to reach.

But not bothering to worry about the things you'll never have keeps people from a world of dissapointment. Not saying one shouldn't have goals or work towards them, but I'd rather be pleasantly surprised with how well I'm doing than constantly not measuring up. Or never be able to acheive what I'm setting out to do.

Are you pleasantly surprised often?
I just don't see that as being any more satisfying or less disappointing than being a bit more ambitious. Im' not saying being obsessively ambitious. But like Erin said, one needs to dream. It doesn't have to be unheatlhy.

If we try and focus only on those things we believe to be attainable, they we lose touch of what we truly desire and instead settle for compromise. I think it's healthy to every once and awhile say "fuck it" to what's "possible" and allow our minds and thoughts and desires to travel out as far as possible. Many times it's those flights of wishful thinking that spur us to re-evaluate our actions now, and see where we can make improvements.

It's sort of like that question, "What would you do if you knew you wouldn't fail?"
I've never been able to answer that. My mind isn't built that way. When given endless possibilities, I completely shut down. I simply cannot compute. I went to a career and life planning class once and came out knowing nothing more than I did when I went in. I need limits and lines drawn to help figure stuff out. Or I'd only ever be dreaming.

Hmm...I guess I'd answer that question "pretty much everything I'm doing now" lol lol nod...well, I take that back. If I knew I wouldn't fail, I'd go skydiving and/or bungee jumping, something like that.

But I get what you're saying about too many possibilities. With me, though, my mind wouldn't really wander all over the map...at this point in my life I'm in tune with who I am and what I desire. I guess my limits are defined by, and my lines are drawn by, the natural spiritual growth that time has afforded me and the understanding of myself that's allowing for a clearer focus in my life.
