You know,I really hope this doesn't turn into some big racial thing.I think EVERYBODY,regardless of race,should be glad that the snipers have been caught.But already,I see there are a few threads about the race of these snipers,as if that really matters.

Who cares what colour they are. They are accused of shooting people. Black,white,yellow or purple- if they are guilty they should pay.

I'm not concerned with the alleged demographics of the typical race of people who perpetrate certain crimes.

This is not a racial issue. The people who were tragically murdered were both BLACK and WHITE.

The murderer did not discriminate and either should we.

I am glad he has been caught, but I feel the greatest sympathy and sorrow with the family and friends of the victims.

I was surprised that the killers were black as well. I don't see what's wrong with bringing that fact up. I'm sure the profilers in this case were expecting white males. It probably helped the snipers elude escape that they were black and appeared to be father/son.

Serial Killers

According to the FBI, a serial killer must have three or more victims, killed in three or more events, at three or more locations with a cooling off period between killings.

Sexual motivation is another component necessary in defining the serial killer. Their murders are driven by the desire for perverse sexual gratification. To the average person it is difficult to fathom the morbid sense of sexuality. The majority of serial killers engage in various abhorrent sexual practices with their victims called paraphilias. For instance, necrophilia defined as sexual intercourse with a corpse or coprophilia which is defined as sexual arousal with/by feces. Other more obvious paraphilia's could be pedophilia (sexual intercourse with children), sadism (sexual arousal by inflicting pain on another person) and pornography. In fact, 81% of serial killers report having a penchant for violent pornography. In other words, sexual intercourse may not be performed on the victim prior to or after death. Another trade mark of the typical serial killer is torture prior to the death of the victim and overkill, which is excessive violence performed after the victim has died (mutilation of the corpse).

The typical serial killer is a white male, this was found to be true in 92% of the cases studied by the FBI. He is usually in his 20's or 30's. He is more likely to be the eldest son and was usually raised in a home with a domineering mother. The families of these killers typically had several forms of family dysfunction in operation, during their childhood and adolescent years. For instance, almost three-fourths of the families had histories of alcohol abuse, and 1/3 had histories of drug abuse. Over half the families had history of psychiatric problems, and approximately 50% had family members with criminal histories. These men were also more likely to have been abused as children. In approximately 70% of the cases the father had left prior to the offender turning twelve years old. Particular problematic behaviors were found in these men in childhood and adolescence. Compulsive masturbation, chronic lying and fantasizing was found in over 75% of the cases. In addition, bed wetting, fire setting, and cruelty to other children was found in more than 60% of the cases. A significant portion of the cases studied also had reports of cruelty to animals and problems sleeping *(Ressler, Burgess, and Douglas, 1992).

There are other categories of killers that the FBI does not consider to be serial murders although individual persons may kill a number of times. For example, any murders due to terrorism, Mafia or organized crime, gang wars, assisted suicides or abortion doctors are not placed in the category of serial killer.

no names, but i can think of several people that have comitted multiple murders, as i stated in a previous
thread. and all was chalked up to drugs and gang violence,
because that's the easiest way to not have to do the work.
