Why do people care about celebrity news so much

This is one of those things that just pisses me of beyond all belief. Why do people care so much about celebrities (note more than one)? Is it nessesary to spend hours on end watching useless celebrity gossip, buying magazines and talk on and on about useless facts?

Someone please give me a good reason!

Because they don't have anything interesting going on in their own lives.

I never understood this.

I can understand wanting to know as much as you can about a Rock star you idolize or respect very greatly. What Prince fan doesn't want to know what he's up to with his next music project.

But wanting to know silly details about where they eat, what they buy, or what color their poop is today, just makes no fucking sense.

And when this need-to-know translates to just any old celebrity, it gets downright stupid.

I can't believe we think it's worth killing a forest to print so-called news about generic anorexic actresses.

I think the general public puts celebrities up on pedestals. Most people gobble up these stories because they want to believe these people are human, just like them. I do think human interest has gone too far and I hope something comes about so that the celebrities get more rights.

I also agree with JustErin. Once a person has more going on in their own life, their interest in celebrities wanes.

It bugs me, too. I was so irritated the other day when I heard that People magazine wanted to pay $6M. for the 1st pics of J-Lo's kids. Isn't there better use of that money?! I couldn't believe that people want to see them THAT badly! confused
