LOST: THE LATEST EP WHAT AN EPISODE!
WOW! I loved it; what a mindfuck! And that ending! It's like Penny and Des finally meet but in 1996 WHAT THE HELL! It was good. Discussions? POV? What's going on?

I've not been watching it this season, though I do love the notion that the damn show is so confusing that ABC is now airing a past episode with "Pop ups" so the average audience member can figure out what the hell is going on.

In fact, isn't that what they said about Picasso and others as they entered the cubist trendiness. How many years of hindsite does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop? I feel that Lost is not actually about a mystery storyline but more about how the human mind (the viewer) can be entranced and engaged for extended time by endless convolutions or "remixes" of past pop genre items that really only add up to an abstract notion of what is fictional "reality"... it brings to surface the nature of the narrative language of film by forcing people to pick, discuss, and construct their own interpretations of the various views, characterizations, melodrama, violence, music cues, etc. so far, it's not like a normal show which has a "reality" or answer, a finite narrative with a beginning and end. Soo far it is like looking at a story through a b broken mirror combined with various magnifying glasses, and skipping forwards and backwards in time as well... it's not a real story. It's a trick. It's disguised as a show. what's in my tea? My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Well thats all fine and dandy, but you know what, when i get home from work and have done the things i need to do and fix dinner and bath the kids and put them to bed and all of that jazz, I want to turn on the tv and relax and enjoy a program. I don't want to have to watch a recap episode or go online and read blogs bout a show with over 100 some characters who may or may not mean something. Nor do I want to be subject to things that happen that may not have anything to do with the main storyline. Rose n whatever her husband name is is a prime example and I won't even mention the diamond stealing couple??? Nor do I care for the "Oh just stay with the show cause everything will make sense in the end." Cause like I said it's just tv. Plus these kinda of shows payoff are always lacking and end up just being stupid and condescending to the audience that has watched it. If Lost was a book it would be panned. and rightfully so. [Edited 3/2/08 0:32am] Before electronics, it was the museums that were packaging and promoting paintings, etc. and wait... Andy Warhol even did an cursory exploration of packaging and promotion as art in itself... but he was like a child doing refrigerator drawings compared to the patterns that have evolved now. Patterns that hold strong even in today's elections or wars. (and conspiracy theories). Where Warhol took the everyday kitchen object or simple movie star and showed a mass (re)production, LOST is taking all these 60's and 70's scifi/horror genre conventions and references and arranging them into a mobius strip that has been origami'd into a very complex but infinite pattern. Of course it is all based in a genre of scifi literature and movies and tv shows of thepast 30 years. They reference stuff with the books that appear, or the set piece,s and music cues. This is "Waiting for Godot" done by scifi nerds. At least that's how I feel about it now. It's not a literal realistic portrait, it's a bit of a referential, modern, abstracted piece . of course they could fuckit all up by bending to the masses with a simple conclusion. yeah Lost is a big puzzle with lots of pieces missing or even eaten by some little kid. I don't think they will answer every single little bit of mystery they have brought up, but the main ones will be.
Also its a show which you cannot start watching midway through as if your just an average tv viewer and don't watch it week to week and only tune in every 3 weeks or so you will have no way in hell of knowing all the little subplots and even the main story at that, especially now with all the flash forwards and the like. And yes this show is a great sci-fi action/adventure show with what i think is compelling and great story telling, although i do dislike quite a few of the characters (Jack, Kate, Claire....being an Aussie and hearing her whiny annoying voice gives me the shits...shes such a yobbo ) but the other characters even it out, especially the whole Locke/Ben relationship. You gotta love it when Locke thinks he has everything going his way but Ben has been manipulating him the whole time. So Evenstar and Lazy are you a casual tv viewer who likes things to be nice and simple and don't make you think? or do you like mystery and have to use your head to think about things you have just seen? If your the 1st then you really shouldn't be watching Lost Receiving transmission from David Bowie's nipple antenna. Do you read me Lieutenant Bowie, I said do you read me...Lieutenant Bowie

I watched the first two seasons and thought it was okay but its just too bloated now and has started "trying" to be this really cool hip showboating type of series for me.
