some of the most horribly sexist attitudes....

I've ever seen are coming from the ghey men.

I'm not just talking about the odd joke, which is cool in the right context, but I mean outright insulting and denigrating ideas and attitudes about women and female bodies. I'm not accusing anyone here, but hey, we all get that's not what you're into, guys.

So what gives?

I know the planet's abundant with redneck asshole straight men, but I've personally never encountered any straight guy that could match the bile spewed by certain homos towards women.

Anyone care to give a crack at why? Because I sure don't know.

There's that too, but I notice it directed at all women, regardless of sexuality.

There are jokes and then there are not jokes.

Nothing wrong with humour, in the right context. But coming from certain gay men, it goes way past the funny and into outright insulting.

we are a subculture that can and does opereate without women. therefore certain aspects of the male being are more noticable. misygongy and hyper sexdrive being two of them.

I see it from time to time here, but it's usually pretty rare when it seems like someone means what they say. Not so in the real world.

I'd argue that gay men, sexual activity aside, do not function without women en masse.

It's more of a general attitude than specific behaviours or words, usually. But it's clear as day: women are disgusting; women should be kept in their place; women are objects

But why? Where does it come from? I spend my time with a pretty mixed group in terms of gender and sexuality, and I've never heard more sexist bullshit than out of the mouths of the lilac set.

we do. i can go weeks without dealing with women. i work for a gay company, have only gay friends and only go to gay business for the most part. aside from my mom and couple of friends my encounters with women are limited.

Or that they wouldn't have anyone to worship. rolleyes

But that's getting into why gay men's heroes are not gay men, but women. So I'll leave that alone....razz

Why? What purpose could possibly be served by segregating yourself?

If I spent all my time with bisexual women, I'd go out of my fucking mind. eek

i've read some interesting essays on that. about how in the past gay men were high priests and priestesses of the Mother Goddesses and the Divas just fill that spiritual role we have always played in a culture that no longer sees the use of that role.

comfort and safety.

even in good ole california it's safer to be wtih my own kind than in mixed company.

and i still think most of the sexist attitude has to do with the unspoken war between lesbians and gay men.

Not necessarily. I live in the middle of BC's bible belt and that's not even the case here. Granted, Canada in general does have a slightly more sane approach to homosexuality than the U.S. does, but still.

I can see how it would be a comfort thing, but to me that makes me think of a person who stays in their hometown forever because they're too afraid of what they might find out in the big, bad world.

and i still think most of the sexist attitude has to do with the unspoken war between lesbians and gay men.

The war seems to stem from the shit attitudes about all women, and not vice versa.

And the war? It's stupid.
