CarrieMpls said: Redheads don't turn grey. Red hair turns sandy, then white. They are also found to lose their color later in life than people carrying other hair colors [I always said I would never go grey!] Cool! I have a little white streak at the temple, but I've had it for years and I don't seem to be rapidly going 'white' yet. My mom did go gray early though, but that was after her entire head of hair changed from red to brown first. The first human redheads walked this earth about 50,000 years ago in Africa and then spread throughout Northern Europe.
Interesting the origins come from Africa.

I have heard we're much more prone to wrinkled skin though. Maybe because it's so sensitive to sunlight and gets more damage through the years?
And I do have a fiery temper.

curls always win... This was written by a redheaded guy. Red Hair Can be a Hurdle for All. Not All Redheads Will Agree with the Following.
Attractiveness The male often bumps his red head on a glass ceiling of attractiveness. Very few of us achieve the standard of what would be called 'handsome'. Too often, 'cute' is our highest peak. A by-product of this effect may be the slim number of red-headed male celebrities blending into the red carpet at movie premiers and gala luncheons. Name as many still living as you can; a hand and a half should suffice. Oh, hooray, they let us have David Caruso. Redheaded women, on the other hand, are in and of themselves an actual fetish. That may be an unwelcome state of affairs, but it nonetheless demonstrates a difference. Do a Google search under redhead, as many of us--er, you--have, and you will come up with a vast number of pornographic sites dedicated to the purpose. That's really only a half-complaint. It certainly livened up my research. Simply put, redheaded men are not sex symbols. We have no Rita Hayworth, no Nicole Kidman, not even an Angie Everhart. Archie did well with the ladies, but then, he's fictional. "Let love be your perfect weapon..." ~~Andy Biersack

I have been told before that I have to prettiest red hair.
I do not see it as red but I do have strong red highlights in my brunette hair. I think most red hair is very attractive on a women. I have never known any red headed men that I found attractive but it was usually just their attitude that turned me off.

I haven't found anything, but apparently being both redheaded and a gemini, I'm supposed to be crazy with a fiery temper. "Red hair is seen on the heads of only four percent of people. Most of these exist in the U.K., the Republic of Ireland, and Australia." Interesting that Australia would be noted for its representation of redheads, and yet not other former U.K. interests like Canada and the U.S. We know that Australia was originally used by the British as a penal colony. Kinda makes you wonder if there's something to the notion redheads=hotheads. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

"Red hair appears in people with two copies of a recessive gene on chromosome 16 which causes a change in the MC1R protein. It is associated with fair skin color, freckles, and sensitivity to ultraviolet light, as the mutated MC1R protein is found in the skin and eyes instead of the darker melanin. It is associated with fair skin color, freckles, and sensitivity to ultraviolet light, as the mutated MC1R protein is found in the skin and eyes instead of the darker melanin. " From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_hair oh and "The pigment pheomelanin gives red hair its distinctive color. Red hair has far more pheomelanin than other hair colors, but far less of the dark pigment eumelanin. Auburn hair has both high levels of pheomelanin and eumelanin. The genetics of red hair, discovered in 1997, appears to be associated with the melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R), which is found on chromosome 16. Red hair is associated with fair skin color due to low concentrations of eumelanin. This lower melanin-concentration has the advantage that a sufficient concentration of important Vitamin D can be produced under low light conditions. However, when the UV-radiation is strong (like in the regions close to the equator) the lower concentration of melanin leads to several medical disadvantages - one of them is the higher rate of skin cancer. On the other hand, the increased rate of melanoma among redheads could be in part due to the photocarcinogenic properties of many sunscreen ingredients[1]. The MC1R recessive variant gene, which gives people red hair and fair skin, is also associated with freckles, though it is not uncommon to see a redhead without freckles. Eighty percent of redheads have an MC1R gene variant,[12] and the prevalence of these alleles is highest in Scotland and Ireland. The alleles that code for red hair occur close to the alleles that impact skin color, so it seems that the phenotypic expression for lighter skin and red hair are interrelated. There is some indication that the uncommon pheomelanin/eumelanin ratios found in redheads may be correlated with some corresponding variations in the abundance of other hormones and neuropeptides, including epinephrine (adrenaline), dopamine, and oxytocin. Wolves which are bred to be tame have been found to acquire a progressively paler coat of fur as they become tamer and tamer through successive generations. The speculation is that the cell biology which produces epinephrine (adrenaline) and estrogens needed for the high-energy fight-or-flight response is linked to the cell biology that governs the relative production of pheomelanin and eumelanin." |
