No I'm not scared of needles, and I can handle some pain.

But I wasn't traumatized by it not because it wasn't painful, I was just so young I have no memory of it.

you may not have a memory of it, but behaviours arising from the trauma may still be with you to this day sad

What behaviour?! mad smile

I don't know, maybe. I definitely think there's no reason to do it anymore (if there ever was).

Well, you're asking to cancel a very significant religious ceramony. Although I'm not religious and I'm not sure what I would do in this case, if I had a child, this is going against their beliefs, and I hope you realize it's not going to be anytime soon that it would vanish from the world. These religious people strongly believe in this ritual.

Yet ritualistically carrying out female "genital mutilation" is frowned upon. This is no argument for a mutilation of a defenceless child in any form.

I abhor the process and not long ago heard of a story (1st hand) of a baby dying from shock during a circumcision. In my opinion the parents committed child abuse and are guilty of manslaughter - but becasue it's "religious" they literally get away with murder.

The thought of this being an acceptable western procedure makes my sick and angry.

Thanks for the thread smile

clapping I don't know why people rationalize it away for boys, but think it's barbaric for girls. The whole procedure is barbaric and should be done away with. I had my first son circumsized. I was 18 years old and didn't have a clue about the procedure. I just thought it was something to be done. I'm pregnant with twin boys now and I'll be damned if anyone cuts on my babies. My husband was angry with me at first, but I showed him a few circumcision videos on youtube, and now he agrees with me.
