[Edited 2/29/08 14:49pm] You know.....one of these days I'm going to meet a man who wants to symbolize our love with a diamond, cuz symbology is all we legally have, and I'm going to have to think about how to escape the Matrix! But will I want to? 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

If marriage is just something that society puts pressure on us to do then why do gay ppl (and many straight ppl) fight for gay marriages? Why put so much time and effort into something that is such a joke and senseless? Do the stereotypes that you describe in this thread only apply to straight ppl? I really cannot argue your opinion or views but when you express them about a "group" of ppl be prepared to hear back from that "group". I can only speak for myself when I say that heart ring was fucking hideous and would be if it was cz, pearl or my birth stone which I love even more than diamonds. Funny how many women have expressed that same opinion but you keep ignoring that and twisting it around to prove your point. Oh well I guess it is just a "gay thing"... oh wait...that would be a stereotype. Well I can't speak for all gay society but I think the reason most are fighting for marriage rights has less to do with our desire for validation from society and more with bieng on a level playing field with our peers. When you and Phil marry, which is happening as we speak!, you will both be able to leave each other your property. Legally you are entitled even without having to spell anything out. Now why should a gay couple who has been together for 20 years and spent their lives together and loving each other not be able to expect that their partner receive their possessions upon their death? Family members are able to contest wills because of the lack of marriage rights and protections. In horrific circumstances, the partner has no say on the medical decisions for their partner and may even not be able to be with them in the hospital on their deathbed because they are not kin and have no marriage rights. So the fight for marriage rights, for most of us, is simply to gain the legal rights and protections. Like most gays I could give 2 shits if the government, society or the church approves of the relationships I have. Don't care. but I am human and my commitment should count like everyone elses.... 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740
