Oh geesh, I used to eat a lot better than I do right now. Used to be a vegetarian but now eat some chicken and beef, rarely pork.
My fella loves shish which gives the worst dragon breath ever so I eat it when he eats it and we're happy. He imports it by the case from a restaurant in Toronto. We eat a LOT of Chinese food which is not necessarily healthy. Some fast food, We eat in restaurants a lot which is horrible but I'm getting better at ordering healthy food. I do eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, salad every day. "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind"-Dr Seuss

I need to eat better in the mornings. I basically drink coffee until about five or six in the afternoon. I eat one good meal. This is when I am working. On my days off, I eat better.
I only stay away from foods that I do not like.

I usually choose a chicken, turkey or fish menu. But, if I am just dying for a burger. I will eat one. I am in love with salads!! I even once created a thread here about how much I love salads lately I have had huge cravings though for bagels and lox!!! yumm!!

When I read labels I tend to look @ calories & fat content, I NEED to start looking @ the sugars & making sure there's no high fructose corn syrup & shit like that. For the most part I eat okay but I could do much better. I need more veggies & water, less sweet/starchy stuff. I'm good about whole grains & low fat foods, I only fall prey to fast food a few times a year. I need to step my game up

I also eat quinoa, barley, bulgur wheat and cous cous as well and I never notice the absence of white rice in my diet. I just throw any of those grains in the rice cooker and substitute as needed. For pastas I only eat whole wheat, or spelt (the latter is even yummier and closer in taste to white pasta), and I just try to keep the servings at moderate amounts. It keeps me in a size 3 ... OK... I'm addicted to jasmine rice... sounds good. The occasional portion of Basmati is better than jasmine...but try not to love it too TOO much. Brown or whole grain is er, um...sexier!

Girl, that fructose goes straight to my stomach and creates straight up belly . I avoid the fructose and corn syrup, but will eat things that have brown or unrefined sugar in the ingredients. Generally though, I stay away from anything that has sugar listed in the first 4-5 ingredients. I had to...I curse out loud too much when I have to do those damn ab classes (which I HATE with a passion )...I still need to work on my water intake though...because I go through periods of overworking where I willkick some water to the curb and would much rather have a vodka stinger instead

But when I'm having downtime (like now) I just don't think about it. I even have the nerve to take my vitamins ONLY on workdays As if my body doesn't need that every day! So I have to do better. That's a good thing though, looking for those first 5 ingredients. I need to get up on that

[Edited 2/21/08 15:24pm] Jasmine rice has a really high glycemic index (or GI), of about 109, the highest of all rices, whereas Basmati has one of about half that (its 58 I think, about the same as brown rice). The glycemic index is what plays a part in how your food is digested and how much of it is stored as sugar, which eventually turns to fat. The lower the GI the better, especially for weight watchin' folk and diabetics. Btw, I juuust got hip to sticky brown rice this Christmas! Old dude brought a humongous sack home for us to experiment with and I think that bag is big enough to carry me through summer

I don't know if it's just more filling or what, but you'll find that you need less rice on your plate than usual. It really stretches

I can't eat tree or pine nuts because I'm allergic to them. So that's the only food I really have to stay away from because I've been hospitalized after accidentally consuming a salad with traces of walnuts.
I haven't eaten pork in over 12 years. My family collectively stopped eating it during the '90s, so it rubbed off on me. And while I do eat meat regularly, I am becoming more self-conscious about my red meat consumption since my father abandoned it several years ago.
I do read labels and I avoid trans-fat, animal fats in non-animal foods, etc. And I do tend to look for the K or UD on food packaging. And I turned my family onto soy milk. I came home for the holidays and I noticed that the fridge was stocked full of Silk. lol I try not to go too crazy on animal milk, so I guess I'm rubbing off on them, too. [And while this sounds like a lot of restrictiveness, it's really simple to avoid eating things I don't want to eat.]

The only real problem that I have is that I love chocolate chip cookies. I let myself have them every once in a while, but I try to keep them out of the house
