Define Singlehood For me its anyone in a committed relationship BUT I'm learning that some people think its ANYONE unmarried is single.
So even if you have a boyfriend/girlfriend, you are single and up for grabs. What the HELL? Am I missing something?

If U look up 'single' in the dictionary, MY picture would be there!
No seriously... I think that once U enter a committed relationship, U are no longer "single" in dating terms, and should not be selling yourself as such if U say you're committed. However, on an official document, U have to check off "single" because U are not "married", "widowed" or "divorced". I guess it's correct for people to consider U single because U're not married, but it's how U carry yourself in the relationship that matters. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

dating people for me is just seeing what life has to offer
being in a relationship with someone is totally different, it means that i would be no longer single... but singlehood is pretty sweet right now [...i think i can, i think i can, i think i can...]

if you're simply dating then your single. however if you're in an exclusive relationship where both parties have made the choice to be committed to one another then you're not single, married or not. (imo)

I guess it depends if your the one actually in the relationship, or the one "observing" the relationship.
To me an exclusive relationship agreed upon by all parties involved is a commitment, so one is not single. If the goal of one of the parties is to marry yet the "exclusive" relationship is not leading to marriage then single and up for "grabs" applies.

So even if I'm in an exclusive relationship, agreed upon by both parties, it can be viewed that I'm single? interesting....

Ex-Moderator | I think there are 3 categories. Single, coupled/partnered and married.

Singlehood to me is when I am emotionally (romantically) unattached to somebody and have not blindsighted anyone with words like 'commitment', 'love' and/or 'exclusivity'.

You're single if you're just dating or not dating at all. Committed relationships are different, you ain't gotta be married to be considered "off the market"...
