Rhondab

I only have one kid...so shrug

I think me and my brother had "roles" in our household. My brother was allowed to be stupid and carefree and I was the responsible one. I think we were "favored" for different things about our personalities but loved the same.

Even looking at my niece and nephew, I don't favor one over the other BUT I interact differently because of their personalities. I love to talk to my nephew about stuff (he's a smart kid) and I love to play and teach my niece. I LOVE them both equally.

A very close friend of mine has a little skull in her closet... a dirty little secret if you will...

To others she is a devoted loving mother to BOTH of her children...but it's all lies LIES I tell you..... disbelief

She favors her daughter...who as it turns out seems destined to be a big of a tart as her mother..... :so sad really...shameful!

So I ask this of you....org parents....can you be a GOOD parent and still favor one of your children.....?

So sad..... cry

lol

I think that you can do a good job in other respects. However, if you favor one child over the other, you are ruining the favored child's relationship with his/her sibling.

Of course it's possible, kids are people, some people have more in common than others. Dang, even the bible says Jesus had a favorite, ain't he suppose to be good?

Between my two, they've both told me that they think the other is the favorite, which stun the hell out of me. Made me think I'm on my j.o.b. if they don't know. Then again I only have 2, so... confused

Is the question, does a parent love one over the other? Now you might have a case.

My grandmother does this.

Did?

Hmm.

Well she and my dad both openly admitted that she treated him differently than her other two kids. Even differently than her daughter. I mean, she loved her kids dearly. You can tell from the way they all grew up. (well, except for my uncle but he hardly listened and did what he wanted, when he wanted all the time...) I think since dad was the second boy who obeyed, did what he was told, and was essentially drawn to gramma as a child, she favored him. That, and gramma is cuddly. o_o I mean, even though she has dementia now and things are sometimes super hard, you can't help but like...try to get next to her and cuddle with her...lol. But since I'm his kid, maybe the drawn to her thing comes from him.
She didn't love any of her other kids less, you know. She and grandpa both went through blood, sweat, and tears to provide. When my aunt was born, she prayed slaved and did tons to grow her hair longer. She dressed her in pretty clothes and made sure she was active in the church. She did the same for my father and uncle. Everyone was sharp, well fed, and well schooled. When someone messed up in school, they got a pop on the head. lol
Like I said, she favored my dad a bit more. I dunno why. Maybe it was because when he was born, he had very soft, curly hair. Or, because he was a chubby litle brown cherub when he was a baby. But they had a bond that is still quite relevant to this day. None of the other kids resent it. My aunt is just as close to gramma. They talk, laugh, argue, and cry just like any other mom and daughter. If not for my grandmother, my aunt would not be a wonderful teacher and woman in Christ. She raised a wonderful flower. I think she was severely perplexed over my uncle, though. He was a wild, sometimes cruel spirit. He ran off and did some bad things as he got older and essentially destroyed a possible multi million dollar career with apple to do drugs and destroy his own wife's social security in Cali. It's scary because he looks SO MUCH like my grandfather that sometimes when I was around him, I wanted to cry. It was like watching a piece of my departed grandpa killing himself.

I've never experienced it, though. I'm the only child and the 3rd in the installment of 4 grand children. At the most, I got attention when I was younger because I am the only girl and everyone thought I'd "lose it"because my mother died when I was 2 and a half. If anything, I'm as crazy as one could be, but not so gone that life is over. However, the short time I WAS a middle child, I sure as hell wasn't the favorite. lol My two brothers outshone me with their loud behavior. I was the moody one who wrote the suicidal poems and was going through stuff. Everyone worried about me in a quiet, negative way.
I'm not a mom yet, so...I won't say "I won't do that to my kids" because I know ever good parents can make mistakes like that. I would try not to play favorites and leave people out, however. Knowing me and how badly I want children, they'll probably all be the favorites and I'll shower them a bit too much with the love.

I had a girlfriend who saw a baby picture of me and said "you'd be my favorite child" and I said "mothers don't have favorites," to which she replied "of course they do, and you'd be mine."

I felt it was bad & wrong, but it also made me feel really good lol

My neighbors once asked my mom which kid was her favorite.

They're pretty good parents, but I think everyone, even the kids, know which are the favorites of each parent. confused

oh and they'd be wrong! so many parents, trying NOT to play favourites, overcompensate far too much, leaving the favourite one thinking they sure weren't it!
