Televangelists: Preachers of Faith or Master Con Artists?

So are any of these guys legit?

Or is there some mass organization taking money from desperate people?

Preachers of Faith or Master Con Artists?

Well, God is the biggest con of all!

Freaks would be a more apt term.

Icenine, I submitted your e-mail address to the "Benny Hinn weakly newsletter"

I hear they actually come to your house to ask for donations.

Hope you don't mind.

(just kidding)

..i would think a con artist would need to be a little more appealing...hehheh...

i don't doubt there are some people that believe they are doing a work for God that happen to be on TV and may even associate with some of these sheisty characters, but the fact that some of these people such as benny hinn pictured above and paul & jan crouch of tbn have an army of lawyers says that they do have something to hide...

...it's unfortunate...and i've often thought a lot of these people create more athiests than Christians...

I like when he pushes people over and heals their pain, at least until the next time they're up on stage.

I've seen some shows on local networks that were open bible study sessions that were not askin' for a dime.

That's cool.

But like Prince said:

"drive us to the cleaners in a pin stripe suit...

that ain't truth..."

or something like that.

A little confession:

I used to go to every church I came across.

I was in a very "don't knock it, until you try it" attitude.

Anyway, I went to a few of these sort of "healing" shows.

And ladies and gentlemen:

I got pushed!

When everyone in the building was down. I got up and left.

But I remember how, all week the church geared up for one big day.

Something about the "Lord's Spirit" will be here on Friday (pay day, how convienent) so no healing until then.

Bring everyone you know!

Sure enough, Friday there must have been a couple of thousand people.

I can't believe I have been on the org for a full day!

(and I'm at work,shh!)

I think I have to put this down for a little while.

It's not like I don't have anything else to do...

Geesh! where did the whole frikin' day go?

I told myself when I first came to this site that I wouldn't be one of the ones that would sacrafice their job over a musician.

Well now I know it doesn't have to be about Prince to hang here all day!

Forgive me if I get the hell out of here for a little while.

It's way too entertaining not to hang here, but I must prioratize!

Alot of those televangelists are good hypnotists. It's a disgrace and gives Christ a bad name.

Joni Mitchell put it best in her song 'Tax Free'

Preacher preaching love like vengeance
Preaching love like hate
Calling for large donations
Promising estates
Rolling lawns and angel bands
Behind the pearly gates
You know, he will have his in this life
But yours'll have to wait

and another good bit...

Lord, there's danger in this land
You get witch-hunts and wars
When church and state hold hands
Fuck it! Tonight I'm going dancing
With the drag queens and punks
Big beat deliver me
From this sanctimonious skunk
We're no flaming angels
And he's not heaven sent
How can he speak for the Prince of Peace
When he's hawk-right militant!
