Do You Keep Old Greeting Cards?

I was looking through my drawer today, and pulled out a bunch of birthday, Thanksgiving and Christmas cards that I had received in 2006 and 2007. I stuck them into a drawer, and kind of forgot about them. Guess I was thinking that I would read them and discard them later, but I wound up with something like 26 cards. eyepop Do you keep cards that you receive for the memories, or do you throw them away, once a certain amount of time has passed since your birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or whatever?
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

nod That's what I wound up doing, kept them for a year or a little over a year, then pitched them. Which is unusual for me, since I don't usually do that.

i keep them for a few years, then usually i'll go through all my stuff and do a purge. i'm glad i kept some of my cards, though - i found some cards my mom sent me when i was in college, with long handwritten notes inside. those are really valuable to me. nod

I usually chuck 'em out unless they wrote something really special on it, beyond "to charlotte, happy birthday, love mum xx"

I save them, I even have cards from my wedding and anniversaries before my divorce. I'm glad I kept them too. Some of the people have died and it's lovely to have something from them.

I keep some if they're really nice from an ex or someone who's no longer alive. I'm a sentimental sort really, which makes it difficult to throw anything out!!

But run-of-the-mill Christmas cards? The ones people just sign, "Love So-and-so"? I pitch them around mid-January. lol

When we sold our house, I finally threw out cards from 25 years ago. I saved handwritten kid cards, and international cards from friends. I'm a real hoarder. Our next home will be clutter free. No stuff stashed in drawers, under the bed, in the attic, or in the garage. Here's a list of stuff I finally tossed:
old luggage
textbooks
holiday decorations not used in years
sports equipment we grew out of
tools we had three of....
picture frames
doilies, vases, half burned candles.
biggrin
It's more than old cards, one needs to part with.
