ripping cds onto a computer question... does anyone know if the quality level used when ripping cds to a computer effect the sound quality when transferred then onto an ipod...i ripped about 110 of my cds so far and then discovered that the computer was already set to 'optimum level' and not the ''best quality'' level....adn hope i dont have to do them all again !!!!hope this makes sense????

When ripping your CDs you have to choose a file extension your iPod will be compatible with, like mp3, acc or wav
The higher the quality in one of these extensions the better the sound later. Check for the extension you chose (songname.extension) with Windows explorer, for example: fury.mp3 fury.wma you have to start all over

I'm not an expert in this area, but I doubt you'll hear the difference with the regular iPod earplugs or any earplugs within a reasonable budget:shrug:

of course you will ; mp3 , wma. or wave. is inferior [Edited 2/14/08 6:35am]

Why rip a cd to inferior sound quality ?
I'd suggest ripping with Winamp , it can rip to .wav I think all I-pods support wav. format [Edited 2/14/08 22:41pm]

so u'd all suggest ripping to mp3 for the ultimate in sound quality?

.wma & .mp3 is compressed, so you'll always lose quality. .wav on the other hand is uncompressed, the drawback is size ... where .wma and/or .mp3 will take 5 to 3 Mbyte of diskspace, .wav will take much more ... It's give and take ... but I don't bother about it while listening on my iPod.
