Because of the very cold temperatures and wind that we are currently experiencing. The thermometer on my car said 11 degrees this morning! Lucky schoolkids.

Schools are still open though. They only close for bad snow storms or really icy roads..

I dunno, once it gets below 10 degrees or so it's just COLD and doesn't make much difference if it gets a little colder.

It was 2 degrees here this morning (with a windchill of about -20 degrees!) and only a handful of school districts were closed!

I totally understand why they keep little ones home when it's this cold.

Remember when we were kids and they not only made us go to school but they FORCED us to go outside in artic weather for recess? We'd huddle together in groups, breathe slowly and try not to die.

18 is cold for where you live. The weather does the same thing here, it can be warmer, and then all of a sudden, the temperature will drop.

We're smack between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario and really get all the lake effect weather. Watertown is worse though. They were closing the schools more often but parents were complaining that it was happening too often.
I wouldn't send a little one out today.
