I don't keep things of exes. not because of painful memories or anything like that but just that I tend to not dwell on past things like that. Honestly I don't hold on to things I don't care about anymore-especially romantically. I generally consider it clutter. I have one photo left of my ex (and my kids' father) out of everything. and I only kept that because my kids wanted it.

Yes, I have several things. The best (and probably creepiest) are empty cologne bottles that when I smell them it brings back all the good thoughts...like getting roughed up on the kitchen table, ya know...things like that.

memory of scents is insanely strong. i can still remember exactly the smell of the cologne the first boy i kissed was wearing lol

I know, it's pretty crazy.

I can't throw out pics! I pretty much hold on to everything.

Except recently I got rid of a bunch of old emails from my past relationships and trysts. Some went back about 5 years. I never read them or anything. I just kept them for some weird reason.

but I understand why some would. and thats them. My brother's wife told him that she wanted him to burn old pics that he had of him and his exes, some were just harmless prom pictures. I think he's crazy if he does it. to keep the peace I advised him to just let my dad or mom keep them.

nod i just think the different reasons why people keep them are interesting. & my mom totally still has prom pictures lol nod prom/dance pics are one thing, but i think i've only personally kept the pictures from the year i went with a friend.

I had an ex who's new gf ripped up all the pics of him and I together.

I seriously don't get that kinda of behaviour.

sure, it's part of our lives. Maybe not on the mantle, not beside my bed, but just because it's the past doesn't mean I want to eradicate it from my life.

wacky

i can see not wanting them like, framed and displayed around the house or something lol, but if he wants to keep them that's his choice.

I have a shoebox in the back of my closet with cards, letters and photos from my ex. She was the first and only woman I ever loved. The box is sealed shut never to be opened, but never to be thrown away either.

nod keep the box! Some day you'll be glad you did.

I don't see the difference between keeping some stuff in a box or keeping some stuff in out memories & in our hearts. Any grown up knows we have a past and some of that past was really, really good, and we'll never forget it.

I wouldn't want my girl to throw away pics or little momentos of ex boyfriends. I like to know about her past & see who she dated. And I'm not insecure about her feelings, so it doesn't bother me at all.
