Stickers and sticker books

Did you used to collect stickers and sticker books? Failing that, trading cards. I completed my 'Dandy' sticker book but never football/soccer ones. I can still remember old soccer players due to collecting stickers, Pat Van Den Hauwe, Carlton Fairweather, Lloyd McGrath etc..

I used to take big wads of stickers for swapping at school in a double rubber band. There was the usual got of 'got, got, got, NEED!' when you filed through with friends. A particular favourite of mine was the Sheffield Wednesday 'shiny' club badge. It was like the Holy Grail that sticker at school.

Were you a collector? What stickers did you collect? Did you complete your albums?

I was never really into football, but my brother was and used to get the Panini stickers, so when I was younger I copied him, as younger brothers do.

I especially remember doing very well with my Espana 82 World Cup. Not following football since, I am always surprised when the World Cup comes around again and the likes of Dino Zoff, Paulo Rossi, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge aren't playing.

Worse than that, I feel especially old that many of the COUNTRIES that took part no longer exist! Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, East Germany ....

I bought Metal Hammer magazine the other day (I know I Know, gimme a break) and felt a total twat paying for it cos it came with a free Iron Maiden sticker book and some stickers to start you off. How very sad.

To make it truly authentic you'd need some orgers to only apear once on a very low part of the page and some orgers to have four or five stickers at the top of every page biggrin
