Horse Racing---Yeah!!!

Does anyone in orgland love horse racing as much as me?

I love to have a bet on the ponies. I also think that horses are magnificent beasts.

This time of the year in Melbourne is very exciting. We are in the middle of our Spring Racing Carnival and we get massive crowds at the races.

The Melbourne Cup is run on the first Tuesday in November (a handicap race over 2 miles) and we have a public holiday in celebration.

Does anyone out there love the races like me?

I don't mind the races, but I'm not into it as much as you. The Melbourne Cup is probably the only horse race that I'll really follow.

I went to a horse race once way back in the 80s. ...BORRRIIING. biggrin At the Del Mar race track in California, you have to wait 30 minutes in between each race. I don't know if that's standard for every race track, but had it not been that long a wait I MIGHT have gotten more interested in the wagering aspect of it. confused

I also think that horses are magnificent beasts.

They are. I used to drive by a neighbors house everyday. They had a horse in their backyard, and a lot of the time the horse would be wagging its tail, licking on the top of the metal fence, and watching traffic as it went by simultaneously. It was almost as if the horse had a smile on his/her face and was happy just to do that specific thing, it was darn cute. I once told my mother about it and she said the horse probably tasted something salt-like in the top of that metal fence. She used to live on a farm, I guess horses on farms lick on salt blocks sometimes.

Question: why do horses stand frozen when they see fire? Do they go into shock? I asked my mother, she doesn't know.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Flat racing is not cruel. I thinks races over jumps are.

Thoroughbred horses love to run and race. Well, most do anyway.

I've been fotografing Horse Racing for nearly 7 years at the Swiss Turf, for a fototeam. smile
Have felt the power of the horses and the tension and passion of the Jockeys/Amazones under my own feets. I have been living the races from very, very near biggrin

Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect, it means you've decided to look beyond the imperfections... unknown
