Should I go see Margaret Cho?

She's going to be on Kauai in March, and I may still be here (I'm scheduled to leave the day before the show, but that could change).

Anyway, I used to absolutely adore her. But I just realized I haven't seen her act in like 10 years. Is she still funny? Or did she do a Janeane Garaffalo/Dennis Miller and get so caught up in politics that she stopped being funny?

I'm thinking the latter, but I'm hoping for the former.

Anyone seen her act recently? I think I want to go, even though it's all the way across the island (it's more a pain in the ass to get over there than you'd think).

If you hate yourself and enjoy shitty attempts at comedy, get your ass to that show!
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

YES.

If for no other reason than she might do "GWEN-like" material

Just make sure she's actually doing standup and not one of her bullshit fat strippers and poetry mixed with comedy shows.

I like Margaret Cho. I have been invited to go see her with Kelly in April. I haven't confirmed if I'm going yet, but I probably will.

I love Margaret Cho.

I always laugh out loud at her stuff. It's a bit 'niche' but I like it alot.
Plus I love her social commentaries that she'll drop in from time to time about racisim and homophobia.

I loved her "I'm the One that I Want" concert film, but much of her material since then has been really weak.

i saw one of her more recent concert movies and i was really disappointed...i felt like it was really pander-y, like everything she talked about had to somehow relate to how great gay people are. and i mean, sure, we ARE god's chosen people, but i was like, OKAY, WE GET IT. nuts

she also seemed to be going through the motions and watching her do her imitation of her mom was like seeing sting drag out "roxanne" for the billionth time. tired, obligatory, phoned-in.

i'd spend the ticket money on a copy of her first movie on DVD and a pizza. you'll be better off.

i wouldn't want to hang out with him. oh god no. even if he was nice, he'd be that kind of creepy-nice where he talks about dreams all the time and looks at you too long after you're done answering a question, like he's silently psychoanalyzing you for jesus. i don't need that in my life. just smash the damn watermelon and let's all move on.

Yeah, he's TOTALLY like that. I've talked with a few comedians who have been REALLY cool. Pauly Shore's really nice, as are Colin Mocharie (sp?) and Michael Winslow. I spoke with Tom Green via webcam. Gallagher was the only one who was kinda course.

one unfair generalization which i have no problem supporting is that, as a rule, comedians are angry, bitter people. lol

Agreed. To me, Bill Hicks was the best comedian since Richard Pryor or Eddie Murphy, but if he didn't have his anger to fuel him, he wouldn't have been as volatile...or as incredible.
