Random question that's been bugging me for awhile: prune juice? Wouldn't "prune juice" actually be plum juice?

well I would think that 'prune' juice would be different or at least taste different since it is dried first. just as I don't think 'raisin juice'would be have the same consistency as grape juice. Interesting question. now i'm thinking about it

I was trying to some how compare the raison and grape to the prune and plum to see if prune juice is the same as plum juice. I don't think so. I don't think prune juice would be the same as plum juice because it is in a different form. its something in itself. it no longer has all of the properties of a plum. can't believe i'm putting this much thought into this

A lot of people have spent a lot of time thinking about prunes here.

Have you noticed that they've started calling prunes "dried plums?" I think prunes have gotten a negative connotation/bad rap - and they're trying to market them to younger people who are used to eating "dried fruit" of various varieties.
Anyhoo...prunes are actually a specific type of plum. They're a freestone plum - which means the pit is easy to remove. I suppose you could call prune juice plum juice - but I think people might expect a different taste/consistency if that were the case. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

So, can someone tell me.... is prunce juice actually, somehow made from prunes (which have no juice) or is it actually made from a juicy plum? "Half of what I say is meaningless; but I say it so that the other half may reach you." - Kahlil Gibran

okay i found this question #2 http://ezra.cornell.edu/p...#question2 Dear Uncle Ezra,
I have a question that had been bothering me lately and I was wondering if you could help me. Here goes...If a prune is a dehydrated plum...how is juice made from it? Also, Why is it so hard to find plum juice? I have never seen it sold anywhere in my life. And wouldn't a plum, or plum juice for that matter, provide the same nutrients and therefor the same servive as prunes, or prune juice. And why is there no Raisin juice??? please help... Thank you, Kevin Dear Kevin,
No wonder you're confused: Prune juice is not a fruit juice, according to Mark McLellan (MRM1@Cornell.edu), Associate Professor and Chair of Cornell's Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva, New York. It is a water extract from dehydrated prunes, typically made in the following manner: 1) Prunes (dried plums) are washed and softened by steaming; 2) The softened prunes are passed through a pulper to create a watery puree; 3) The puree is treated with pectic enzymes to prepare for filtration; and, 4) The puree is filtered, pasteurized, and bottled. Various attempts to sell canned plums have been made, although Mark's not aware of anyone selling plum juice. Raisin juice could be made, although the flavor impact may not be as strong as with prunes. Looks like a couple of opportunities, if you've got a food/business bent! Thanks, Mark!

I'm dyslexic tonight. I thought that said, "Dear Uncle Raze"
But anyway, thanks for the info! Of course, I'm still going to ponder this. I think at this point, it's become something that I can go to to overload and short-circuit my brain when thoughts of heavy real-life stuff spin out of control.
