There's nothing like throwing money around to lighten spirits up right before an election.

Bush is going to try to "stimulate" the economy by throwing money at us (Americans). About $300-$600 per person.

It worries me. How bad is the economy for the government to have to give money away even though it's in debt up to it's eyeballs? And if this doesn't work to stimulate the economy (what I heard on the news) then what's next?

It's a temporary fix to stimulate the economy, by putting $$ in consumer pockets, that they'll spend. Historicaly, it doesn't last.
Consumers certainly deserve a break. Guess who's going to pay for the banking/mortgage fiasco? WE ARE! If you take out a home loan or mortgage, there are now increased insurance fees. Banks are increasing fees for ATM, and other services.
I noticed with my recent credit card statement, this at the bottom of my charges:
"If you default on any Card Agreement, your rate may increase. The new rate will be the Prime Rate plus up to 23.990% or up to 28.990%, whichever is greater. These rates apply to your account at the time this statement was printed".

Invest or save it, y'all... It's "bonus" income. Put it in a CD or mutual fund, something that will benefit from some interest or growth. In recent years, the average American's rate of savings was put at $0 or below.

That's negative savings.

Invest or save.

meh...

don't get me wrong, I'll take it...but I don't feel that it's gonna do alot for an already struggling economy...most people will save it or apply it to bills or past due debts...I certainly don't expect a great surge in consumer spending because of it..

It's akin to them throwing nickels and slices of bread to the poor....according to the proposed outlay of cash, I would qualify for about $1800...600 for me and the wife, and 300 apiece for the kids...which in the grand scheme of things is a nice bump to the savings, but in reality will have the same effect as eating chinese food....full for a second, then hungry again a couple hours later.....

Still...in the immortal words of Henry Hill....

I like money.

I like shoes.

More money means more shoes or a vacation.

I also like vacations.
In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.

It's not a gift. It's our money. I guess we should be glad that they're giving our own money back to us?

While raising taxes for others. There is no such thing as a free lunch, we all know that lesson. We'll pay for it in the end.

It's going straight to my credit card.

Single people will be getting $600 back, people who don't pay taxes and make less than 3K a year will get $300. Families get more, I think $1,200? Plus an extra $300 per child or some shit.

They should pay single people more for not contributing to the already over crowded population!!!
