The best thing I read about regrets was found on a poster hanging in a bathroom wall. It was one of those posters with about 1,000 pieces of advice on it. The one that stuck with me was:

You'll regret the things you don't do far more than the things you do.

I believe that to be very, very true.

but hopefully they can still be done? biggrin

I think most folks have some level of regret over something...I think what really matters is how they choose to handle that regret...do they wallow in it, learn from it or simply move on without much thought at all...shrug

I have a few regrets, a few things I wish I had done differently...not all those regrets were mistakes, just decisions different from the type of decisions I would make now...but those past decisions are part of the person I am today....

That's fairly insightful. Considering the source and all....

By the way, the subject of "regret" always brings Frank Sinatra's "My Way" into my head. I think "My Way" is one of the five greatest songs ever written, and it will be played at my funeral.

Here are my five greatest songs:

1. The Holy River
2. He Stopped Loving Her Today
3. My Way
4. Butterfly Kisses
5. Watching Scotty Grow

Numbers 4 and 5 are kid-specific. Probably no one else but me is going to put them in a Top 5 list.

My dad used to own a huge C&W joint in Houston, back in the '60's/'70's. One night they had booked George "No Show" Jones. George did show up but proceeded to take a piss onstage after the first song.

My dad's partner literally carried him off the stage and threw him into the middle of Telephone Road.

Those were the days...

Until the last few years of my life, I lived with a lot of regret. I hate that feeling and now really go for what I want and try to be open about my desires, feelings and needs. If I at least put it out there and try, I cannot regret not trying. That makes all the difference really nod

I can honestly say I don't regret anything I have ever done, I am starting to regret the things I might not yet do though lol

Take every oppourtunity you are presented with and make decisions carefully. Once you have done it, it's done, learn from it and move on.

Never regret.

That wasn't the question. My original post was, 'How regretful are you? How do you got about letting things pass you by and moving on? What do you regret and why?' I just guess some folks can't admit to never being wrong or making mistakes.

I may have been "wrong" or have done things that some might consider to be a mistake but I do not regret anything I have done. To me there's a difference.
shrug
Guess it is all in how you view your life.
[Edited 2/7/08 10:27am]

Do you really not regret those things or do you not invest feelings in regretting them? There are some things that I have not allowed myself to regret, not because I actually don't or wouldn't feel regret but that the regret would be so huge and overwhelming to me that I just can't even open that door. That isn't the same as having no regrets though.

Oh shut up Phil! Vallory is more than capable of answering herself lol

It is possible to have no regrets because you haven't allowed yourself that emotion. That is what I've done with certain things. I just wanted to know if it was the same with her.

Now go find another damsel who needs a handkerchief to cross a 2 inch puddle lol

That is ok dear... I am very used to getting drilled on every word I say..second guessed by ppl who think they already have the answers.
I am learning that I only have to explain myself once.
I have answered this question almost exactly like a few others have..see Predom and Violator but no one has asked them the same questions.

I think on a more positive note, it is impossible for one not to regret, but to learn to regret doing something immediately is natural..

to hold deep regrets for years is unhealthy, and now when I look back on my life, all the mistakes and choices I have made I take full responsibility for, so I have no REAL regrets in that respect

Just because YOU have chosen to do that does that mean that everyone has? Or do some people choose to be different?

you think I think I know all the answers? I know I don't know jack shit lol I was just asking a question without some whacked out weird ass motives. Upon first examination to myself I thought that I too had no regrets and then realized that I didn't allow myself to have some of them as it would be too huge. Just wanted to know if someone else handled it the same way is all. If you say never no, then fine. I was just curious.
