Despite my grasping at straws explanation for Drawing Restraint 9, that one is tough to beat. Btw, here's the trailer (slightly, briefly NSFW):

I thought I read somewhere that Matthew Barney doesn't release his films on DVD. I saw it in the theater. Twice. And I still had to pull that plot summary out of my ass. Who knows what the movie is really about.

The Fountain
...and last night I bought and watched "Across The Universe", the movie set to a bunch of Beatle's songs....the jury is out, but there were more than a few WTF moments..... ...but it did look FANTASTIC on the big screen/blu-ray.... very beautiful movie to look at.... He was like a cock who thought the sun had risen to hear him crow.

I can see the confusion about Pan's but its really one of those movies that you have to think about after it ends, example Was Ofelia really princess of the underworld or was she just some deranged girl who wanted to escape all the realities of the fucked up world she lived in? Or was she just plain and simply insane? I mean if you lived around all that war as a little kid and were into fairy tales so much wouldnt you too want to believe in some far out land that you could call your own? The second half = It's not out here yet (release date is next week), I saw it on my laptop on the net.....so, not a big screen and the audio was not great. I kinda lost it when the Josh Brolin charcter was killed off.....from there stuff just seemed to happen, especially the last monologue from Tommy Lee Jones made not much sense to me but maybe part of it was due to the bad audio. The atmosphere of the movie was very sinister, which was brilliant. Never thought that the lack of a musical score would be able to add that to a movie. All I can say is that the Coen-brothers did it again, still this one is exceptional.....even for them!

Requiem for a Dream - Trauma for Weeks Gummo - I just don't even have the words I don't really see Requiem as a 'wtf?' movie. It's just a depressing tale about how drugs can shatter your aspirations. I agree Gummo is 'wtf?'. Yeah, I've done drugs, even a bad acid trip had nothing on that movie. With it's sped up film sequences, the close-up of electro-shock on the mom and just the way it was filmed was traumatizing. Sucking cock for drugs, "ass-to-ass" being screamed by a bunch of slimy old men, I'm having a WTF moment just remembering that shit.

I was looking forward to some big showdown between Josh and Javier and it happened off camera. How anticlimatic. Then there was all this other stuff that I didn't care about including Tommy Lee's monologue about his dreams to which I totally didn't pay attention and was waiting for the next scene. Well the next scene was the credits!

Comedians always make great serious actors.

It was so depressing. Like even though the ending was supposed to be "happy", still the way it all happened was so sad. Some depressing movies are good even though they're dark but to me this wasn't.

Oh, I almost forgot:
Anything by Japanese director Takashi Miike is liable to put you in a nuthouse after you see it. He's an ardent fan of Lynch and Veerhoven, but he takes sadism and human perversion to levels which one cannot imagine. His film "Koroshiya Ichi", or rather "Ichi the Killer" is an example of his tendency to do films on the Japanese mafia (aka the YAKUZA), that makes a Scorcese film look like an episode of the Teletubbies
