sosgemini said: roodboi said: very true... but if this had happened to Joe Schmoe two floors down, suicide may not even be a thought... motherfuckers are over medicated...period... regardless of the reasons or afflicttions, doctors are giving out prescriptions like they're M&M's, without much explanation beyond "This will make you feel better."....I live in a really small town, three people here died last year from "accidental oversoses"...2 were senior citizens, 1 was a guy in his early 30's...all had multiple perscription drugs in their systems...it happens...real people die from this shit too and there's not always an underlying issue of suicide, despite what their mental state may be... I'm not here to praise or mourn Heath Ledger, but this atleast brings light to a larger problem...people are not informed of the dangers of perscription medicine...chalk it up to ignorrance or a lack of common sense if you want, but folks don't deserve to die because they lack either of those...if they did, the wold would damn near be an empty place.... see, i just don't see it...do i think ledger killed himself? nope...do i think he was a drug addict? yup. oxycodone is not something to f*ck with lightly...that's used when folks are in some major major f*cked up pain...the fact that he was taking it leads me to think this wasnt just overmedication. IMHO the dude was getting high off that sh*t, needed some help sleeping and acquired numerous sleeping pills and od'd. are doctors at fault? sure...but so was ledger.... I agree. That list of prescription drugs he was taking was no joke. If he had to take that many prescription strength sleep adds, than his doctor should have referred him to a specialist. They have facilities dedicated to sleep disorders such as insomnia and sleep apnea where they monitor you all night to see what your symptoms are and then give you recommendations to help you. Doctors are humans and humans aren't perfect just because they go to school for 8 years. I can't put all the blame on the doctors or all the blame on Heath. The doctors should have referred him to a specialist instead of continuing to write him prescriptions for sleep aids and other medications; and Heath should have read those labels a little more carefully before swallowing soo many pills in a short period of time. They put all the warnings on the pill bottle and/or on the bag that the bottle comes in; and it's up to the patient to read them if they are ever unsure. Prince Rogers Nelson

I agree totally... but I also stand by my notion that there are doctors that sling prescriptions around like they're candy... and of course there are those that doctor shop, in order to get a fix....I certainly don't know which applies to this situation, although I tend to believe he had an addiction problem () but in two of the cases I mentioned earlier; there was no doctor shopping...all the prescriptions were issued by a single doctor...(separate doctors for each case)... I rarely see a doctor unless something major is going on...and more times than not, I turn down prescriptions...as somebody mentioned earlier, I'm just not keen on 'em...I get the feeling alot of doctors use the 'scripts as a quick in and out fix and hope to see you for the follow up...

This link is from today's WSJ. It covers the meds Heath took, and what they're used for.

My friend cries in the middle of the night because he can't sleep. He is miserable throughout the day because he didn't sleep and the shit repeats itself. It's depressing and can drive one crazy or desperate for relief. My other friend has anxiety and feels like he is having a heart attack for no apparent reason, it just happens out of nowhere. He's on pills for that Insomnia is the most disorienting thing. I suffer nightly. And I pop pills nightly. Sometimes I have to pop two instead of prescribed one. (Though, trust me, since the death of Heath Ledger my pill intake is back to normal.) But I have no plans to off myself nor am I a manic depressive I actually love my life. But I cannot stay asleep. I've even gone to the "dream center" and other b.s centers. I've been tested for all kinds of sleeping disorders and nothing. I'm slowly coming to realize that I just don't need that much sleep. But the nights do suck sometimes. How is he responsible if he's suffering from insomnia (2 hours of sleep max, his words), anxiety attacks and penumonia?
Crew on the set of his new movie (The Imaginarium something) said he was REALLY sick the last time he was on set. Surely, that explains something to those still thinking suicide? I don't agree with mixing pills of course but god, if he had insomnia on TOP of being very sick and he woke up again, popping a few more pills seems at least understandable. It was all just a horrible accident.

It's very rare for a male to commit suicide with pills. Men tend to be more violent in the way they off themselves. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

This is how my brother died. Except his was oxycontin and xanax. Both prescribed to him at the same time with no warnings of taking them together. One pill each and he died. What a shame. Doctors need to stop prescribing so much medicine together. that makes me so mad really this should be written all over the box
