Record Stores Any Torontonians know of some really good ones. I've been to Neurotica, that place is pretty cool. Just wondering where there were more like it. Thanks in advance.

maybe off-topicsince it is not in Toronto: yesterday it was announced that my all time favourite record store in Amsterdam, Boudisque, has to close its door after almost 40 years..... Boudisque was one of the two (Concerto being the other one) most important independant record stores in town. Great place to spend an afternoon in, with friendly staff.....all fired!

Hey abierman! It's ok to be off topic. That is incredibly sad. Record stores are my new favourite places. They are always neat to find. They are a dying breed so it's sad to hear when one closes.

Sam the Music Man on Yonge Street near Eaton Centre had been perhaps THE premier record store in Toronto for decades. Sadly, it had to close its doors last year. The internet killed it. The storefront has been named a protected historic fixture, though, and so you can still see the giant, spinning neon records up on the building.
But anyway ... I'm sure there are many better small stores I simply don't know yet in Toronto, but a decent one I've visited is Sonic Boom at 512 Bloor St. W. You'll enjoy this place if you're into the big, warehouse feel. Another is Vortex at 2309 Yonge St. Very small, cramped spot. They suck at getting newer stuff in, but they've got a great selection of cheap catalog CDs. You might also want to explore Bloor, College and Queen streets between, say, Spadina and Bathurst. Those areas have a heavy artsy/college crowd, and so they probably have a bunch of interesting, little indy shops. [Edited 2/6/08 8:31am] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου
