El Orfanato/ The Orphanage

Has anyone seen this? What did you think?

I thought it was much better than the reviews it received. Of course it wasn't as good and refined as Pan's Labyrinth but it was still good. There weren't that many suspensful parts but the few there were were intense. It had interesting concepts of game playing, haunting pasts, seeking to right wrongs, the paranormal, and consuming fairy tales.

I'll probably see it because I loved Pan's Labyrinth but the previews have it set up like some cheesy horror flick.

Loved this movie. I even started my own thread about it last month: http://prince.org/msg/100/258404

The one scene where Laura plays the Spanish equivalent of 'red light, green light' was killer.

Oh frig.

I was playing that game with my son last night.

Is this movie gonna give me nightmares? Am I not gonna wanna be alone with my son ever again?

As a parent, this movie may freak you out more than the average person. Guillermo del Toro loves films about dead children.

That's not necessarily bad. As I recall, you once said scary movies are the perfect opportunity to be comforted by a hot guy. razz

Have you seen Guillermo's earlier film The Devil's Backbone? It's similar to this one.

I think so, although I don't remember any one scene as intense as the 'red light green light' scene in The Orphanage. Like that one, this movie is about a haunted orphanage.

Yes, these movies are great for that. I just can't watch them alone.

Oh sorry. I didn't know. That's why I wish there was a movie forum. It's so hard to weed through GD to know if there's a duplicate thread.

But yeah, that scene is freaky. It's freaky like someone chasing you and you don't want to look back because it will slow you down but you don't know how close they are. Goose bumps!

No need to apologize. That thread was dead. I'm happy to see someone start another one. This movie needs the exposure.

Lots of people here are watching it online. Is that because it's more convenient to watch it at home or it isn't showing in your city?

That's hot. I'm assuming you can watch downloaded movies on your TV, right? I can't see you two cuddling in front of a computer monitor.
