I sang with Jan and Dean last night Well, OK - it was just Dean. Jan passed away, but the show was called "The Jan and Dean Show". They played at a huge Mardi Gras/debutante ball last night in Galveston.
They had a part in the show where they asked for volunteers. Of COURSE I jumped on the stage. Turned out it was a dance contest and the winner got a cool black and white Strat autographed by the band. I was stoked! Until, that is, one of the debutantes was goaded onto the stage. She was a dead ringer for Hayden Pantierre, and she was so nice. Immediately, I knew the battle was for second place. When it was my turn, I took the guitar (we were supposed to imitate a guitar player) and I gave it my best Princely funk face. We were vamping to "Johnny B Goode" so I did the Chuck Berry duckwalk across the stage, even running over this drunk dude who got in my way. NO ONE gets in RodeoSchro's way when he's doing the Chuck Berry duckwalk. I ruled, but of course I knew Hayden Pantierre's twin was going to win. She was so nice and pretty that even *I* would have voted for her, despite the fact that she was very unfunky. But during all the hullaballo, I saw there was an open mic. What's the one thing we know about me? That's right, I never pass up an open mic. So now I can add Jan and Dean...errrr, Dean, as another famous person with whom I've sung. Also, country star Clay Walker was there. He sang Dobie Gray's "Drift Away". Wow, that dude can SING. He tore it up. | |
