My husband has finally won his SSI case, which means I can at last fly back over 2 the USA join him so that we can make a life over there at last!! The thing is he wants 2 fly over here when he finally gets the all the backpayments and everything so that he can visit our son and also 2 sort stuff out and I fly back with him!! The thing is the SSI people are such assholes, cos once u get the SSI, particularly the backpayments, they do advise u 2 spend it and not horde it away in Savings accounts, etc. cos they figure that if u have all this money, then u can afford your own medical care,etc. and not rely on State help Also, they monitor your bank accounts as 2 what u spend the money on, which is very difficult, cos I expect they will see that my husband is spending it on airfare and such over here 2 the UK!! The problem we are having is that when we finally get back, we want 2 save the rest of the money for our retirement and living on what I will b earning as well as my husbands SSI monthly payments, yet how can we when the SSI people want us 2 use it??? One way of doing it, is for us 2 put it in our bank account in the USA and then transferring it over 2 our bank account here in the UK!!

Does anyone on here, get SSI?? Also, how do u manage it??

I sympathize with your situation, truly. But the SSI folks have a point: If you're going to rely on government funds for a particular need, they should have a say in how that money is used.

Otherwise, to taxpayer watchdog groups and other concerned citizens -- not to mention the law -- it would appear that the money is being used fraudulently, which opens up a whole other can of worms.
