I'm thinking about renting a car............

when I'm in England this June. I'm afraid though. What if I automatically get on the wrong side of the road. If it's a standard transmission will I be able to shift with my left?

So many questions?

You will do fine. Men generally pick these things up easily. What you could do is wait and test drive Phil's car. If you wreck it then you know not to rent one.

Maybe by then I will have a car and you can take mine out... I would share with you.

This could save you up to 30% on the car rental (they search in local car dealerships in the area you're going to, which are normally cheaper than AVIS, etc.)

As far as wrecking the car, it's England--you're doomed no matter what you do.

I have to say that I think it is easier for us going to the USA compared to you coming here. Car hire is usually expensive and as standard it is manual (stick shift) Yep the box will be on your left. We also have roads with bends lol and roundabouts. So the USA is crazy, I am still in shock that i drove around LA but you just point it forward and hope for the best over there.

But you don't know until you try! confuse

You could have a traffic accident in one city, and the traffic in your own town is affected. I mean, WTF?

You should be fine. If you're not used to driving a standard, try to make sure your car has automatic transmission.

I drove on the left side of the road for two and a half years with an automatic transmission car. It was difficult for the first two days and then after that it was like I had been driving on the left side of the road my entire life.

I'm a girl, and if what shanti says is correct, I'm not supposed to be as good at it as you so if I was fine, then you'll be awesome.

Don't worry.

I did want to do a couple of outings. Nothing really major BUT I did want to go with you and Phil. I know Phil is working so it may just be me and you on some occasions. I'm so damn excited.

You are both sweethearts.

Eeeeek. What a challenge. It actually sounds like fun. What I love is that wherever I travel, I end up coming back with some crazy stories. It never fails. Maybe this whole car experience will be one of them.

I am always told it is because men don't get as nervous as women behind the wheel. Though I am sure that is not true of all men or all women.
The roundabouts and the very narrow one lane roads freak me out the most.

Here's my thing. I hate hate hate being an inconvenience to anyone. I wanted to drive to London and catch some sites and hopefully get to see you! I also wanted to visit Ellie and Jon for lunch or dinner.

And this time. I have to go dancing somewhere. If anyone knows of a good place. It doesn't have to be gay. I love Soulful house music.(I'm very picky about it, since they call everything house these days) I'm trying to find out where AARON ROSS spins. I love his style of music. I wish LAZY DOG was still around! Waaaaa!!!

streets freak me out, driving in them or crossing them. I adore public transportation because then I can just knit or read a book and not think about it.

But yeah...I was fine driving on the left so I'm sure Miguel will be fine at it, too.

You can rent an automatic and the switch of road sides isn't as hard as you imagine. It's small roads mental Londoners that you should worry about. I reccomend just driving round and round Heathrow for a couple of days and then taking the car back, you will be fine.

Looking forward to saying hi again and sinking a few beers. I can look into the club thing if you like and if I get a pass out, maybe we could take in a mellow club for a few hours. cool
