Well...when I first lived on my own in Pittsburgh...I'd have BBQ's almost every weekend. It just started as me doing my yardwork and people driving by to have a beer, bring a beer, shoot the shit..and it would snowball as my house was on the front street and everyone riding by would just pull over. Before you knew it....full scale bbq in effect all evening long! In all those years of sponsoring parties and such.....I have only had one small item stolen from my home....a set of grooming clippers. That's it.....I am a good person and I surround myself with good people that will have my best interest at heart when I am down or not even around. For those of you who wondered or cared about why I posted this... the reason I started this thread is it's really something I think about. I had a Bible class on Tuesday and it came up then and yesterday I wasn't feeling to great in the self worth department so I was really thinking about it. Figured I'd see what you guys thought about it.
Personally I think we are all "good" because we are made in God's image... now the question of if you are a productive benificial member of society or not...well that ones harder to answer. In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

Well, everyone has an aspect of good because we all possess common grace. So I think beyond that it is a matter of establishing the right definition of goodness and keeping your promise to try and live it out. If you constantly fail, you're still trying. And I find it hard to believe that a person trying to do good would never succeed.
But I would approach the recognition of goodness in one's self with humility. A boastful heart is not a good heart. America's political system used to be about the "pursuit of happiness." Now more and more of us want to stop chasing it and have it delivered.
