Mardi gras is my favorite time of year! I even decorate my house! You GO!!! Moni... it's a great time of the year when the whole city goes nuts, well one of many admittedly, I haven't been in many years it got kinda crazy for a while and after you've seen so many. but now would be cool, a few people from my office are going over but I can't to short of a notice. plus the last memory I have of home is the 4th of July right before it all went to hell and I don't want to lose that.

I visited New Orleans for the first time in March and April 2006, about 6 and 7 months after Hurricane Katrina. I was in an 8-week military class in Biloxi at Keesler Air Force Base for my part-time national guard job.
Haven't been back, but planning to go soon. Unfortunately, Fat Tuesday is next week and it's at the start of the February book, so I am SOL because I work for a TV station. But if you do go to Nawlins, make sure you take a side trip east about 70-80 miles to Biloxi and Ocean Springs. Make sure you visit The Shed on I-10, the bast damn BBQ on the planet. Get fed at the shed. Oh, when in the French Quarter make sure you visit Razoo's. Best 3-for-1 deal on the planet.

But I enjoy Mardi Gras!!! Like I said I decorate my home for this time of year! And I order King Cakes out of the city to support their economy! New Orleanian...born, raised, and educated....my fam still lives in the area...got lots of friends still living there...I haven't been there since right before Katrina, but from what I've been told, things are slowly coming around....the crime is still a bitch, and there is still a ton of stuff to do to get her back to her glory....but the powers that be have worked overtime to recover most of the tourist attractions.....several local musicians have resumed playing....and if you REALLY want to experience N.O., go to Jazz Fest instead of Mardi Gras....here is a taste of the line up....
JAZZ FEST ANNOUNCES 2008 MUSIC LINEUP
FOR FULL SEVEN-DAY FESTIVAL: APRIL 25 - 27 & MAY 1 – 4 The Neville Brothers, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Jimmy Buffett, Tim McGraw, Santana, Maze feat. Frankie Beverly, Sheryl Crow, Widespread Panic, Dr. John, Al Green, Diana Krall, Keyshia Cole, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, The Raconteurs, Irma Thomas And Thousands More Scheduled to Appear there's more info on JazzFest Line-up... this jammy jam is a much truer representation of my fair home until the city is completely restored....jus' my He was like a cock who thought the sun had risen to hear him crow.

I have Mardi Gras colored earings that I wear on Fat Tuesday with my purple and green and a touch of gold. but you should try to make the jazz fest to get a true sense and flavor of the city since you won't make mardi gras. don't know what happen there [Edited 1/28/08 21:47pm]

Its a fantastic place, I loved every second I was there, the atmosphere was just buzzing. I was there for two nights back in 2001, I stopped there as I was doing a trek across America from New York to L.A. Sometimes Life is like the post...You just don't get it!

As A New Orleans resident half the time and born , raise and attend high school there, its a nice place to visit!! But live there is another story. Have fun and do not cross Rampart st in french quarter or you will wind up in the Iberville Projects!!!
