Agree whole-heartedly.

But I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing either.

I don't get the author's thesis. What's he saying... that older men should stop playing video games and get married? He's talking with some very loose generalizations and analogies...

funny how the article starts out... a man's "adultness" is measured by how soon he has a child and how soon he gets married. lol

no I don't agree that all or even some men are "child-men" as they call them and I also don't think it's a bad thing either.

Me neither. That author is a pain-in-the-ass, IMO. She sounds like some of my relatives & friends, always asking why don't I settle down. Sh!t, I don't want to - it's not my thing. I'm enjoying my freedom, and no responsibilities to anyone but me. I'm not f-cking that up. smile

I agree with a lot of what she says, that marriage and kids DO make people, men in particular, finally "grow up", but I also think we're re-defining what adulthood means anyway... It no longer means marriage and kids necessarily.

please, I know plenty of women the same age or older who share living quarters with other women in the city and go out and fuck different guys on the weekend, just like described in this article.

Marriage doesn't appeal much to either sex anymore.

IMO this article says nothing

i stop reading after 7-8 paragraphs ..and i dont agree with the author cause it seems they have a problem with men being single.. if a guy has a job and he pays his own bills, he's responsible.. period.. whatever he does in his spare time (basketball, PS3, comics, movies) that's his business... there's some stigma in society that ppl 'have' to get married in their 20's and who made that rule up? .. Seems ppl who talk like this are .. unhappy with their own lives (wants others to be miserable too) or they are plain jealous of single ppl and wish they could be again .. why force your belief on others? If you dont get married til your 50 .. you're still normal ..

yep, to each his own and whatever works for them and hell yes. things have changed there are more women then men who are waiting till they're in their 40's or later to get married and or have kids. there are even women who are choosing to stay single, what are they "child-women". bottom-line the times have changed.

Amen. She raises some good points and I definitely fit some of her criteria. I'm not married, no kids, haven't had a committed relationship for quite a while, am unsure if marriage is in the cards for me.

BUT...

I think a man can still be a MAN without needing the wife and kids bit. The book
"The Way of the Superior Man" is a wonderful look at what truly defines masculinity...and it's not the John Wayne maschismo that America is based on.

I think a Man is defined as someone who can get out of his own head and help others selflessly without any intrusion from his ego. Someone who knows and is led by his Purpose ... and a relationship is NEVER anyone's Purpose in this life. Someone who takes full responsibility for his actions.

that's another issue.. ppl (not all) try to make it seem that staying single.. is abnormal .. or if u never have kids u're not fulfilled .. and that's a lie .. happiness is how you feel about your life..

I don't think the article has a negative slant really, though. It's more just stating that this is what is happening and that it's different than any other point in history...

exactly! and hello, this is not new. men have been staying bachelors for a longer period of time then women have, we're just figuring out that particular stigmas doesn't define us, how to enjoy our lives and be just a bit more selective. if they were talking about women, it would be somewhere along the lines of "look how far we've come".

PREACH!!!!!

I have a steady job(plus I free-lance from time to time), my own place, money in the bank and a car that's paid for. Plus I'm always there for my father, my brother(and his family) when they need me. Pretty responsible if you ask me. I've seen plenty of cats get married who shouldn't, and they wound up divorced two, three years later. I knew early on that lifestyle wasn't for me, so I didn't do it. Will I chance my mind as I approach 50? Who knows?

If folks were more honest with themselves before tying the knot, they'd avoid a lot of heartache later on.

I have to say that I agree with this article. I don't think that it's necessarily bashing men for this behavior, but it doesn't place them in the best light either.

I felt like this article was saying that men don't want to do anything that's not fun and getting married and having kids is definitely not fun.

sigh

I wonder why the article ignores the huge growing phenomenon of the child/woman? You know the ones who likes to watch Project Runway or Gray's Anatomy over doing or experiencing anything for real, juggle boyfriends like shoes, and would never want to get married and have kids... I know quite a few!
