Top floors of Monte Carlo on Fire in Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (CNN) -- Sections of the top four floors of the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas were on fire Friday.

1 of 2 Firefighters could be seen on the roof of the hotel.

Most of the flames appeared to be coming from the southern section of the hotel.

No injuries have been reported so far.

Black smoke was billowing into the air and was visible from more than a mile away, CNN producer Darian Billington said.

He said traffic was backed up on the Strip, and crowds of people were gathering to watch the blaze.

The hotel has more than 3,000 rooms, including 211 penthouse suites, and conference rooms.

The more expensive rooms are on the top floors.

The hotel was built in 1996 for $344 million. It is in the heart of the resort corridor.

The Monte Carlo, a subsidiary of MGM Mirage, has about 3,000 employees.

In 1980, a fire across the street at the MGM Grand Hotel, now Ballys, killed 84 people and injured nearly 700

Poor Monte Carlo hotel!! Well hope it gets better. I only been in that hotel only once out of the last 6 years I been there. I go to Vegas every year and hardly pay attentio to that one. At least it was not my LUXOR, EXCALIBUR, MGM, STRATOSPHERE, OR MY VENETIAN!!!

I was watching the video on CNN, they were evacuating people.

If allowed you just know that people are still on them slot machines on the casino floor! You would have to pull me away kicking and screaming if I was on a roll.
