I was going to be "Laura," after my paternal great-grandmother. But my cousin was born first, so that took care of that. (Thank goodness. I mean, Laura is a pretty name - but I'm so not a Laura.)

After that, it was a rhythm thing for my mom. I (and my three sisters) all have three-syllable first names ending in 'A' and one-syllable middle names.

My dad spent too much time in Japan, he fell in love with name combinations, and meanings. Funny though it's somehow is related to the Cherokee. Not sure if that was part of it too.

my mom's ex-boyfriend.....who happened to be a good friend of my dad!

My older sister got to pick my name (first name). My parents wanted her to feel included and excited about having a baby brother or sister.

She picked "Diana" which was the name of her best friend that lived next door.

After I was born, she regressed a bit...couldn't say "Diana" and started calling me "Dee-Dee"

Irene, after my Mother..I hated with a vegence this name growing up..it always sounded like an old lady's name. After my Mom passed away, I learned to love it....I have my mommy's name.
