Trendy Parents

How trendy are your parents? Are they down with the kids of today? How and in what ways?!

mine were always trendy, especially in the 80's cause they were in their 20's and listening to all the awesome 80's music, which helped shaped my musical taste.

My dad is old as Methuselem from a pretty conservative backround, and his lifestyle attitudes definitely reflect that.

My mother, crazy and annoying as she is on the 'mom' tip, has a flip side that makes her really fun. In her mid 60's, she still has a love for ALLLL things mundane, watches more MTV than I do and will generally be able to tell me what's on Perez Hilton's latest blog before people on the Org. When I used to live in the States and she would come to visit us from the North, most of my dinner parties usually revolved around HER as my friends completely ignored me & my sister wacky. Probably the best times to watch her get her "trend" on are the all-girls happy-hour/sushi lunches we would gather for: put her at the head of the table & give that old lady some sake and a hot topic to chomp on, and she's pure entertainment (and refreshingly contemporary in her views)...in everything from hot tv shows, top 40 music, to religious fundamentalism to gay rights shocked. Mommy is, in short, A TRIP. Just imagine my old ass father shuffling around the house humming some Cab Calloway tune from 1938, while this lady's sitting up singing to Mariah's "Shake It Off" video, full blast on MTV rolleyes

That was another time. It's his favourite Prince song though I think. He did put it on his compilation CD for his colleagues which he makes every year. Along with 'Purple Rain' and 'The Question Of U'. My Mum's favourites are 'The Beautiful Ones' and 'Pink Cashmere'. She's got 'The Beautiful Ones' as her ring tone along with her pic of Al Pacino in 'Scarface'.
