I agree. A really tacky one, with earrings from Hot Topic I think. And are those flats with that?! I like her hair and make-up though. She's gone from stripper to A-lister. Give her a little time to adjust. Don't forget, this woman is a writer, not an actress or singer. So we should cut her some slack regarding clothing choices. She doesn't have the funds to get Vera Wang or Donnatella Versace to personally design a dress for her.

I thought the script was quite good. The dialogue was tight and sharp and the story complex. The script was its strength, not the directing or cinematography certainly.

Starting to slack again this month though. So you must have gotten over your fear of going to movie theaters alone? YES! I knew ahead of time I wasn't going to find anyone to see Diving Bell and Beaufort with me so I went alone for those and a few others. I sit near the front of the theater with the other single people. I saw the last three films I wanted to see this weekend as well as The Counterfeiters. I'm happy I decided to see that one at the last minute since it won for best foreign film. Best documentary Taxi To The Dark Side slipped through the cracks so I hope it stays in theaters a few weeks longer so I can see that one too. I'll comment about the rest of the winners later. I'm only a movie fiend in January and February. I don't like to sit in the front, but as long as it's not a Friday or Saturday night...I have no problem going to movies alone.

Nicely written screenplays - especialy comedies - are scarce. JUNO was well-written, indeed. I think that Oscar was well-deserved VOTE....EARLY

Hah, I went to see The Counterfeiters this past Friday night alone. It was a 10pm show and I decided to go at the last minute straight from work because we're on deadline. I sat in about the 6th row, walked out after the credits and heard someone call my name. Turned out my friend and her boyfriend went to the same showing. So I got caught at the movies by myself on a Friday night.

greenpixies said: I think everything ended up appropriately. Except I was surprised by Tilda Swinton's win and she starting out her speach with "Oh no" wasn't very good. I was kind of surprised that Diablo Cody won because, come on, how hard is it to write a cynical, sarcastic teenage story? I bet I could do it. And her speech wasn't even witty at all. Also, I'm glad they gave Marketa Irglova a second chance at her speech...that song is beautiful. And yeah for No Country, rightly so.
I think I'm getting old because I remember the Oscars being so boring because I didn't know anybody and last night I knew everybody. Me too (getting old). These past couple of years I've seen most of the nominated movies. Before the Oscars I typed up a bunch of my picks and when I clicked "post resonse" I lost it-- damn org. So naturally, I was spot on. No surprises, of course Actually, I didn't see Michael Clayton because a) I don't watch legal suspense thrillers in the theater b) I'm still not sold on Clooney as a reputable actor-- I always felt he was shoved down our throats and c) there were other more interesting movies to me. I still want to see it at some point though. I just wanted to say that No Country for Old Men, which was excellent, shouldn't have won Best Picture. Even though it stayed pretty much true to the novel, there needed to be a conclusion. It was incomplete in my book. There Will Be Blood could've used some more depth. I wanted more about the cult, about the fight with the oil companies, about the relationship between Lewis and HW and Lewis and Mary. Many things were touched upon vaguely and never surfaced again. It was a tease. It was the sheer power of Day-Lewis' acting that carried this movie. The same could be said to some extent about Elizabeth and Blanchett (I'm not saying it was as good as There Will Be Blood) Juno on the other hand was more of a team effort. Everything and everyone was perfect with that movie-- the script, the acting, everything. I wouldn't change one thing. The most rewarding movie experiences I had this past year were with that and Sweeney Todd, but I pretty much love everything Tim Burton does anyway. [Edited 2/26/08 0:59am]

Was her attitude perceived as smart-ass? I thought her acceptance speech was refreshingly different.

those were pretty crap. And the gospel one was a moving performance, but not a great song. That song from Once was perfect for the movie, perfect for the moment in the movie, and it stuck with me immediately. That was the best moment of the whole evening for me--the song, the speeches, John Stewart "that guy is so arrogant!" My Legacy

But it was interesting that they decided to film from certain angles (or from a distance) because they weren't really actors, and that got the best performance from them. His take was interesting, too, he said most actors don't know each other and have to pretend they do, but they knew each other and had to pretend they didn't. My Legacy

Yeah, a lot about the movie was contrary to traditional filmmaking. I had to watch the opening scene (where the guy gets robbed by the junkie) with subtitles because I had no idea what that junkie was saying with his accent.
