In fact, I'm pretty sure the acerbic, sardonic letters I sent to Spalding Gray during my adolescence are what lead to his unfortunate suicide. Also, in eighth grade (1988), over the course of a few boring homeroom classes, I wrote a story involving an ophthalmologist, a documentary filmmaker, a philosophy professor, a TV producer, and a blind rabbi. I titled it "Crimes and Misdemeanors." Now, I’m not calling Woody Allen a thief, but his film of the same name (and remarkably similar plotline) was quite a departure from his previous efforts. Plus, my homeroom notebook did go missing that year. | |
