I didn't love it. I somewhat liked it. I thought it started out pretty rough with the acting and the wit. It transitioned into something cute but that's it. I liked the prolife message but it was still very cynical about the concept of pregnancy and childbirth. However you don't see many movies where the girl goes full term and gives it up for adoption. So Kudos Diablo Cody. But still it was only eh.
I thought You Me and Everyone We Know was a much better film than this one. Also, how hard is it to write and act a film like this? Not very. I don't think I could rewatch it. I'd be bored. America's political system used to be about the "pursuit of happiness." Now more and more of us want to stop chasing it and have it delivered.

ufoclub said: I think it gets really good about a third of the way in. Until that point it seems like many amateur films I've seen in that everyone has the same clever over-thought overrought voice of wit, reference, and dry irony.Meaning it seems like it's obviously written by one person who is trying really hard to have an attitude. But then, once the story twists beyond just the numb acceptance of pregnancy and trying to be clever with the dialogue,.. it gets really good.
there is a hilarious backlash against this film from the alternative and indie culture (making fun of it's dialogue style and music choices and identifying it as the mainstream invading and exploiting), but it does get REALLY good once the drama starts. The one thing that bugs me though, is that the boy just accepts anything, he seems to have no attachment himself to the baby. No real drive or internal motivations. And he's supposed to be the sensitive good guy! I agree. I wasn't buying that whole thing. Why are we supposed to believe that she found her special someone, or however wittingly it's written, in this boy? They totally didn't build his character enough. America's political system used to be about the "pursuit of happiness." Now more and more of us want to stop chasing it and have it delivered.

But for the one show where I saw him they were not with him and a local band replaced them. So did I miss anything? I remember reading that Adam's fans seemed to like them a lot. I forgot that was the guy you told me you liked until I read your post this morning. The Pierces were great. Sometimes their harmonies can be a little eerie. Maybe it was hearing it in the context of their macabre lyrics and synchronized dancing. They reminded me of the Siamese Cats in Lady And The Tramp. I noticed that, too! Weird, huh? I found it so strange that a movie about a white family in the whiter than white suburbs of the Twin Cities could give one that feeling.

In fact, I'm pretty sure the acerbic, sardonic letters I sent to Spalding Gray during my adolescence are what lead to his unfortunate suicide. Also, in eighth grade (1988), over the course of a few boring homeroom classes, I wrote a story involving an ophthalmologist, a documentary filmmaker, a philosophy professor, a TV producer, and a blind rabbi. I titled it "Crimes and Misdemeanors." Now, I’m not calling Woody Allen a thief, but his film of the same name (and remarkably similar plotline) was quite a departure from his previous efforts. Plus, my homeroom notebook did go missing that year. "She made me glad to be a man"

something odd about an "indie" movie with some pretty big names in it, and Sonic Youth mentioned as well as a Melvins poster
then again the director is a Melvins fan but then Hollywood is getting behind this movie like it is the greatest thing since Little Miss Sunshine.....and it is far from that
