Good ass movie.
What the hellw as that thing? Some type of Alien monsta-thing lol. And the little grey monsta things were scary too. Unique. At least the monster was new. It was almost relative to The Host but not so comedic and more real than Host. I hate when people say they didnt like the shaky camera. What else did ya think it was gonna be recorded like? Good movie though. I didnt see what was in the ending yall are talking about though....when they were on the ferris wheel...I didnt see anything Maybe I didnt know I was supposed 2 until now. As a hard movie critic and believes movies aew awful these days, didn't did not change my mind. BUT however, it was good original ideas and this movie did seem more realistic and could happen in real life unlike GODZILLA and KING KONG!! It was good but not a TRANSFORMERS or RETURN OF THE KING(Lord of the Rings)

I saw it yesterday. I actually thought it was kind of "meh." Seemed like something you'd see on the sci-fi channel. And I agree that it really doesn't do anything Blair Witch didn't do first. BW was scarier to me, because everything was left to your imagination, with just a few sounds to spook ya.
In this, there were just too many things that were unexplained that felt like the filmmakers didn't really have answers to either. [SPOILERS COMING] 1) What was the explosion/fireball stuff they see on the roof? He knocked over the oil tanker, but that wasn't near where the explosion came from. The explosion was down in the Financial District somewhere, and I can't think of anything down there that would create such a massive explosion. 2) How was Beth's building knocked down? The monster was downtown, then up to Columbus Circle to mess up her building, and then made it back down to the Brooklyn Bridge? I mean, it was big, but it didn't really seem to move that fast. 3) On that same note, why was the monster always in the same place as the main characters? It was like it had a beef with them. 4) How did they hear the monster at all other times, from a good distance away, and then suddenly it's standing over them in Central Park? It's not really clear but maybe he ran into traffic or something? Gas station? 2) How was Beth's building knocked down? The monster was downtown, then up to Columbus Circle to mess up her building, and then made it back down to the Brooklyn Bridge? I mean, it was big, but it didn't really seem to move that fast. The monster was all over the place. It might move slow but it covered a lot of ground in a few steps. There's also a few theories being thrown around that there was more than one monster. 3) On that same note, why was the monster always in the same place as the main characters? It was like it had a beef with them.
Nah, there was a whole chunk of the show where we didn't even see the monster. When they raid the electrics store, in the subway and after that for a while. 4) How did they hear the monster at all other times, from a good distance away, and then suddenly it's standing over them in Central Park?
I think you'd be able to hear a monster that huge from anywhere quite frankly. As for the Central Park scene, it had just taken their helicopter down so it was still in the area. Remember - suspension of disbelief is your friend [Edited 1/21/08 18:45pm]

Hasbro Making a Cloverfield Monster Action Figure Link 1/21/08 Cloverfield fans will be able to take the monster home with them in the semi-near future. Hasbro has announced it will be releasing a Cloverfield monster figure that will be a "highly detailed representation of the beast," according to the Hasbro press release. "Hasbro is very excited to be working with Paramount and Bad Robot to bring to market a piece of the film for fans and collectors," said Brian Goldner, COO of Hasbro, Inc. "The fan buzz on this film has been terrific and we are happy to take part in the excitement." The figure will stand 14 inches tall and will come with two interchangable heads - one depicting a calm face and the other an agitated face - and it even comes with the head of the Statue of Liberty as well. You can pre-order the toy now from HasbroToyShop.com but don't expect to get it soon, or for it to be cheap. While the pre-order starts today, the Toy Shop site states that the item won't ship until September 30, and that the price tag is a lofty $99.99. [Edited 1/22/08 8:21am]

RipHer2Shreds said: I liked it. There were some good moments of suspense, and the effects were rendered nicely. I also liked that they didn't attempt to explain the monster's origins. You don't actually need to do that to make the movie enjoyable. It's not a terribly original movie, but it was enjoyable.
Even at barely 90 minutes, it started to feel too long (the intro party stuff bored me and they spent far too much time in the subway). I don't need a monster movie to give me character development, but when it does I wanna have some sort of attachment to the characters on screen. I wanted more monster and less party people. Yeah, the party part was painful, mostly cuz we'd all seen what happens in the preview. I was like, pleeeeez Mista Monsta, come eat these fools soon! [Edited 1/22/08 10:19am]

Apparently, according to folks who have been following the film's various viral-marketing websites, it's not supposed to be the monster, but some part of a satellite that fell into the ocean. When the company went to look for it, it awoke the monster. Those theories are intriguing. But if they're onto something, they demand almost too much of the audience: A satellite coincidentally owned by the same company that harvests a secret deep-sea ingredient that makes "a small fish... into an enormous whale" just happens to fall into the sea... at the exact location of a monster, who, in fact, looks not in the least bit marine. Abrams might be reaching with this one. There's also some debate as to the very final audio in the movie. After the credits rolls, some unintelligible words can be heard. Some people have suggested those words -- either as they appear in the film or captured and played backwards -- are "it's still alive!" If we are to assume those words are the end of Rob's recording, that means not only does the monster survive the bomb, but so does Rob... at least for a very short while after he's buried. Interesting. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου
