Okay, sort of a year end list. I don't go see that many movies in theatres so it's by no means an authoritative list. I buy a lot of DVDs however, but mainly older films. By no means is this list about "best," but simply enjoyed most.

So, start with movies I saw in theatres.

1. Grindhouse. Great fun and it opened me to a whole new "old" genre of filmmaking.

2. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. The first movies was so horrible I couldn't even make my way through it. However, this one was mainly about the Silver Surfer, my all time favorite comic, i.e. the original series from the late 60's. Great seeing the surfer come to life once they got the almost-always lame origin movie out of the way.

3. Juno. Funny. Well written. Emotional. Very well acted.

4. No Country for Old Men. Great photography. Great and going against audience expectations.

5. ???

Honestly I can't remember any other movies I saw in theatres this past year.

However my "biggest" disappointments were:

Spider-Man 3. Kid stuff.

Transformers. Kid stuff.

Shrek 3. Way below kid stuff.

Now on to DVD-S.

1. "School Dazed" a collection of 8, yes, count 'em, 8 movies in glorious anamorphic widescreen for the unbelievable price of just $9.99. The wonderful 70's and 80's teen and sex films include an early Robert Carridine in "Pom Pom Girls" "Charley" from famous "noses" episode of Brady Bunch scoring chicks in "The Van." Plus, plus, "My Tutor" "Weekend Pass" etc. etc. Haven't been able to make it all the way through "My Chauffeur" yet. A must have.

2. "Welcome to the Grindhouse" series. A collection of "grindhouse" movies with trailers and the whole thing. Some of the highlights include "Beach Girls" "Coach" etc.

3. "From Beyond" This followup to "Re-animator" eluded me for years. But now they've done an incredible job with their restoration; it's now in a version "no one" has seen previously.

4. The collector's package of "Robocop" This includes the "director's cut;" its' only a few extra seconds, but the excessive carnage takes it to a whole new level.

5. The re-issues of "36th Chamber of Shaolin" "King Boxer" and "One Armed Swordsman" Bang up job on these classics I never had the chance to see before in their restored glory.

Off the top of my head, that's about it.

i enjoyed #23, Death Proof & Atonement. I can't recall the rest at the moment.

i need to watch No Country for Old Men though.

and i was disappointed by Fracture & The Invisible.
